A seaside town with class
The seaside town of St Cyprien, which lies in the far south of France not far from the Spanish border, is a bustling and lively resort in the summer months. St Cyprien is a heady mixture of an old Catalan village and a modern seaside resort. And whilst being full of things to do, with bars, restaurants, shops and entertainment, St Cyprien is no Blackpool with sunshine. This is a resort which does “Class” with a capital C.
|
Three parts to St Cyprien
There are various parts to the town, and these are referred to as St Cyprien, St Cyprien Sud and St Cyprien Plage. Plage is the French word for beach, and property with a St Cyprien Plage address will be found beside the beach or the marina. The marina, the second largest on the Med, is a fascinating hive of activity and colour. Boats of all shapes and sizes come to moor up, or sail off on pleasure trips.
|
Inspirational art
In its time, the outstanding beauty of the area around St Cyprien has inspired many great artists. And with its foreground of seascapes, backdrop of mountains, outlying vineyards and colourful fishing port, it’s not difficult to understand why. The town has evidence of this for you to enjoy in the shape of the Francois Desnoyer Museum, which houses fascinating collections of paintings by famous names such as Toulouse Lautrec, Gauguin and Maillol. It is also possible to admire a collection of Catalan art, and St Cyprien has a modern art centre too, so art lovers should be kept happily occupied here.
|
Perfect beaches
The long, safe sandy beaches of the resort are about as close to perfect as it gets. Lapped by the warm, blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea, the seaside here is a constant pleasure, whether in the hectic heat of summer or in the peace of a windswept winter’s day. Families are well catered for in St Cyprien, and children will be welcomed in the restaurants and cafés which abound in the town and on the waterfront.
|
Étang de Canet
If you should tire of the golden sands and wish to experience something a little different, take a short trip to the nearby “inland sea”, a salt lake which lies just on the landward side of the sea. The Étang de Canet is a wildlife haven, with many beautiful and unusual species of bird, animal and plant to be found in a very special environment.
|
Activities for all
When planning a day’s activities in St Cyprien you will find yourself utterly spoiled for choice, so much is there on offer. Children will love Aqualand, a huge watersports centre which is close to the resort, and there is also a massive sports complex known as La Grande Stade. The town boasts a 27-hole golf course, and horse-riders will be delighted to discover a big equestrian centre and superb trails for trekking. Winter sports enthusiasts are also drawn to St Cyprien, as it provides easy access to the fabulous ski resorts of the Pyrénées.
|
How to get there
Getting to St Cyprien is easy, as the nearby airport of Perpignan offers flights to and from the UK with three airlines, these being Ryanair, flybe and bmibaby. The airports of Carcassonne and Girona are also perfectly accessible. Perpignan has a TGV stop too, which means that train travel is possible from Waterloo with Eurostar, then from Paris or Lille on a TGV.

Property prices and availability in and around St Cyprien
Property in St Cyprien tends to be expensive, as is all Mediterranean property. There are compensations, however, as the rental potential is excellent, and the market usually remains strong should you ever wish to resell. Modern, attractively presented apartments are most common, especially near to the beach.
