The lively little town of Nantiat is found amid the beautiful countryside of the Haute-Vienne department of the Limousin, a region known for its unspoilt open spaces, woodlands, meadows and lakes. Combining small markets with a good selection of shops and amenities, Nantiat strikes the perfect balance between a peaceful rural existence and a modern, comfortable lifestyle for its residents and visitors.
Nantiat has small morning markets held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, worth a look to pick up excellent fresh local produce from this predominantly agricultural area. In addition to the markets, the town offers a very good range of shops and supermarkets, restaurants and other amenities. One restaurant, Le Relais des Etangs, is a designated gourmet restaurant, guaranteeing a fine dining experience. Many of the buildings in Nantiat are original and attractive, with the church being noteworthy.
Fans of outdoor activities will find endless opportunities to indulge their particular hobbies in and around Nantiat. The unspoilt countryside is perfect for walkers, cyclists and horse riders, while there are many leisure lakes for swimming, sailing and fishing in the vicinity. Places to visit include the capital city of Limoges, notable for its porcelain tradition; the memorial town of Oradour sur Glanes, the scene of a tragic Nazi atrocity now preserved as a memorial to those who died; and the beautiful historic market town of Bellac.
You can travel by air or rail (TGV) to Limoges, from where it is but a short drive to Nantiat. Flybe and Ryanair both fly to Limoges airport. If you are driving, Nantiat is found near to the N147, on the D711.
Nantiat has many attractive properties and is a very good place to look for that bargain start to a new life or lifetime of holidays in rural France.
