Idyllic country village
Razès is a small village in the heart of rural France, in the Haute-Vienne department of the Limousin region. Razès is definitely not the place for you if you are seeking big town entertainment and a life style that includes shopping ‘til you drop and clubbing the night away. But if you prefer a friendly village atmosphere in beautiful, peaceful countryside then you may like to take a look at Razès.
|
Soft green landscape
The village of Razès is straight from a chocolate box, with its shambolic rural buildings in soft sandstone colours and a pastoral idyll all around. Cattle graze lazily and time appears to have stood still for a hundred years or more.
|
Historic buildings
Many of the buildings in the village are of historical significance, and indeed Razès can claim a heritage dating back to Roman times. There is an attractive and interesting church, the Church of the Glorious Cross, which has a square tower built in the typical style of the Limousin. Another attractive feature of the village is the old bridge which spans the River Couze.
|
Out and about
The village itself has fairly limited amenities, so it is likely that you will need to access larger towns for certain things. Fortunately, Razès lies not far from Limoges, which is the principal city of the region, and which offers all amenities and much much more! Treat yourself to the famous pottery that is made here. Enjoy cultural activities such as watching a film or going to the theatre, safe in the knowledge that you can return to the unspoiled tranquillity of Razès.
|
Sports in and around the village
Country pursuits such a horse-riding, walking, cycling and shooting are popular in the area. Fishing is excellent in the lakes which abound in the region, but don’t forget that for hunting and fishing you will need to obtain permits… ask at the mairie.
|
How to get there
The nearest airport is at Limoges, which is served by economy airlines Ryanair (from Stansted, Liverpool, Nottingham or East Midlands) and flybe. If you prefer to drive, be warned that it takes around eight hours to drive to Razès from the ferry ports in the north of France. The town is situated near the A20 autoroute.

Prices in this area are as low as you are likely to find in France, and there are many beautiful properties in and around Razès. This is a place where you may still find farmhouses for renovation and the setting is truly beautiful.
