For buying and selling property in Masseube
The town of Masseube can be found in the heart of the ancient province of Gascony, in the department of the Gers. It’s an attractive old market town surrounded by green and pretty countryside. With its old stone buildings, clean, wide streets and red tiled rooftops, Masseube seems to have changed little over the last hundred years. There are even still some of the pretty colombage (half-timbered) houses in the town.
A town with a rural heart, Masseube does offer most of the things that you need in a town, such as banks, shops, healthcare and schools. Masseube also lies close to the major town of Auch, so if you have need of even more facilities such as hypermarkets, specialist colleges, extensive shopping and so on, you can access these without having to travel too far. The market in Masseube is held twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and although it is by no means the largest market in France it is certainly very good. Selling only local fresh produce, you can rest assured that the goods are of the highest quality and as fresh as it is possible to find.
On the face of it, rugby may seem something of a non sequiteur after the two fowl, but as all three are of great importance to the town it makes more sense than at first appears! The rich yet essentially simple Gascon gastronomy is heavy on the ducks and geese... with cassoulet, confit, foie gras and other ducky delights at the top of every menu. A diet such as this fuels the passion of the town's men for the sport of rugby too... try to catch a game when in town!
Masseube offers a great range of sports, with many popular activities found in or near to the town. There is a nine-hole golf course, which makes up for its lack of a second nine with its very pretty setting, and you can also find tennis, horse-riding, cycling, hiking and other sports. Travelling around the area will let you discover many lovely villages, rolling landscapes and help you to capture something of the heart and soul of this unique place.
If you like to fly, you will find that you have the choice of flying to Toulouse (easyJet, British Airways, flybe, bmi and bmibaby), or Pau or Carcassonne (Ryanair). For those who prefer to travel by train, the superfast TGV can take you all the way to Toulouse from Paris or Lille, after you have disembarked from Eurostar.
Property prices in the Gers compare favourably with many other parts of southern France, and there is still plenty of opportunity to purchase farms and other rural properties for renovation.
