Cosmopolitan city
The cosmopolitan city of Colomiers is situated in south-west France, very close to the city of Toulouse. Surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Haute-Garonne, with its undulating hills and valleys and fields of sunflowers, Colomiers is able to offer city living within short reach of a rural idyll.

Colomiers… Toulouse without the expense!
Being so close to Toulouse also provides many of the advantages of living in the beautiful ‘Ville Rose ‘itself, at a lower cost. Toulouse is well known as a very expensive place both to live in and in which to purchase property. Colomiers, on the very doorstep of Toulouse, offers a more realistically priced alternative, yet provides a comparable standard of living, quality of life and access to big city amenities, all set in the same fabulous cultural area of the Haute-Garonne.

The sky’s not the limit!
For Colomiers, the sky is very definitely not the limit, as it is here that the groundbreaking development work has taken place which produced first Concorde, and now the enormous A380, that dominates the skies with its glowing silver-white body and breathtaking sound. The city is home to many British and American engineers, and thus has a very modern and cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Shopping, parking and other necessities
Colomiers is a city of some size and substance and can provide everything you need with its supermarkets, banks, cafés and shopping centres. There is in fact one excellent shopping centre which combines most of these amenities with free parking for a huge number of cars, which is a privilege you are unlikely to enjoy in Toulouse! Colomiers has its own sprinkling of restaurants and bars, but the town is so close to Toulouse that all you have to do is hop onto a train to find yourself with all that the great city itself has to offer at your disposal.

International School
Colomiers is also home to the International School of Toulouse, where English speaking children can study, in English, a curriculum similar to the one they will have known in England. Although expensive, this can prove a blessing to many who make the move to France with older children who may find it difficult to adjust to the language and curriculum in ordinary French schools.

Exploring the Haute-Garonne
The department of the Haute-Garonne department, where Colomiers is set, offers a veritable feast of landscapes and opportunities. The countryside is delightful, with rich, rolling fields, frequently glowing with masses of sunflowers in June, and lines of tall, dark trees delineating the Canal du Midi, as it makes its way towards the Mediterranean. Driving to the coast takes only a little over an hour and a half, and the beautiful snow-capped Pyrénées, with all their sporting opportunities, are around the same distance.

Activities available
There are numerous sports centres and swimming pools in and around Colomiers and Toulouse, and outdoor sports such as horse-riding and cycling, alongside the ever popular golf, are also easily accessed from the town. Colomiers is also a passionate rugby town, like so many in the region, and although its team is not as well known as Toulouse, the matches are entertaining to watch and offer a real slice of local life.

How to get there
Reaching Colomiers is extremely simple, being located as it is on the edge of an international airport. Toulouse airport, at Blagnac, just south-east of Colomiers, offers flights to and from the UK with British Airways, Air France, easyJet, bmi, bmibaby and flybe. When travelling by road, the town is located from the N124.

Property prices and availability in and around Colomiers
Property in and around Colomiers is generally better value for money than in Toulouse itself, although it cannot really be described as cheap. The area is desirable, and property tends to hold its value well, and has the potential for a good rental income too. There are many different types of property available here ranging from sixties style flats and apartments to old townhouses built in the distinctive red brick of Toulousain style, through to modern villas on the outskirts of town. Further out into the countryside, the Haute-Garonne is home to some delightful rural properties, many of which can be restored to their former glory without too much trouble.
