L'Isle en Dodon – a mediaeval market town
The little town of L'Isle en Dodon that is found in the south-west of France, about an hour's drive from Toulouse, is a lovely characterful place that retains many original features and buildings. The town lies in the beautiful rolling countryside that is so typical of the region, and benefits from its position on the River Save, which provides not only an added beauty to the town, but also is excellent for fishing and boating.

Saturday market
The town shrugs off its sleepy air every Saturday morning when the market comes to town with a vibrant life of its own. Said to be one of the best markets in the area, L'Isle en Dodon's market is a great place to browse, to chat, and to buy local specialities such as tasty cepes (mushrooms) or the luxurious treat of Foie Gras.

Shops and town life in L'Isle en Dodon
L'Isle en Dodon offers all the normal amenities you might expect in a small market town. It has some very good shops for those everyday requirements, such as delicious freshly baked breads and fruit and vegetables from local producers. There are cafés and bars for relaxing and socialising, and a handful of well regarded restaurants too for those special occasions... or when you simply can't be bothered to cook!

Out and about
The little town has an unusually wide range of sporting and leisure options for you, so make the most of it and try them all if you are feeling energetic! Choose from tennis, swimming, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, petanque or boules... or travel a very short distance to access golf, horse-riding and some wonderful walking and cycling trails. The mountains of the Pyrénées are only about an hour and half away too, so you can go skiing in the winter.

Places to visit
For the less sporty minded, there are lots of interesting places to visit locally, with Toulouse being only an hour away. Who could resist spending some time in this lovely city? Even northern Spain, with its gorgeous beaches and lively attitude is very accessible in around an hour and a half.

How to get there
Fly to Toulouse with a good choice of airline and departure points from around the UK, including British Airways, easyJet, bmi, Jet2 and flybe. Train travel is another possibility, with TGV links from Paris to Toulouse. St Gaudens is the nearest railway station. The A64 auto route runs close to the town for those travelling by road.

The price of property close to Toulouse is usually high, but with L'Isle en Dodon you are just far enough away from the city to benefit from lower prices.
