The town of Mazamet lies in the south of the department of the Tarn in southern France, on the slopes of the Montagne Noir and on the banks of the Arnette River. If you need to be more active, you could follow in the footsteps of the town’s most famous sons, the brothers Laurent and Nicolas Jalabert, both of whom are successful racing cyclists. In honour of their achievements, Mazamet has a waymarked cycling trail which takes you around the town following distinctive green ands white signs. All the usual sporting activities are also available near or in the town, with swimming pools, golf, horse-riding and tennis nearby. There is even an ice rink in Castres, which is within easy travelling distance of Mazamet.

How to get there
Reaching Mazamet by air is easy, and offers a choice of airports and airlines. Toulouse is within easy reach, as is Carcassonne. Airlines which fly into Toulouse from the UK are British Airways, bmibaby, easyJet, flybe and bmi. Carcassonne is served by Ryanair, who have budget flights available from London Stansted, East Midlands and Liverpool airports.
