An introduction
The Hauts-de-Seine is one section of a ring that runs around Paris, known as the 'petite couronne'.
The other two departments in this ring are Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne. The Hauts-de-Sein is the richest department in the whole of France.

Scandal
You may recall that the Hauts-de-Seine was the department at the centre of various corruption scandals in the early 1990s and again in the early 2000s. The attention of the French press turned on the Hauts-de-Seine at these times, exposing the misuse of public funds destined for use on the department's housing projects by members of the political party, the RPR.

La Défense
Standing six kilometres away from the Arc de Triomphe, La Grande Arche de la Défense weighs in at 300,000 tonnes, is 110 metres (352 ft) high, 70 metres (225 ft) wide and is one of Paris' many famous, man-made landmarks. The arch is so big that the whole of Notre-Dame cathedral could be fitted in its doorway.

Activities
In recent years, big-game fishing has become extremely popular throughout the Hauts-de-Seine department. In contrast, a techno parade, described as the 'biggest techno event of the year', takes place in the department in September. The event aims to promote the energy and creativity of the French electronic music scene.

How to get there
Flights into Paris' two airports from the UK are plentiful and regular. Other options are taking the Eurostar or crossing the channel by ferry and taking the TGV from Calais or Dunkerque to Paris.

What about property prices in the area?
Property in the Hauts-de-Seine has a reputation for being both expensive and chic. The cost of living in the area is the highest in France. However, there are of course, huge advantages of living so close to the capital.
