Chevanceaux – a lively village
Chevanceaux, which is located in the Charente-Maritime in the west of France, is a village rather than a town, but it is a good sized and lively village with a great community spirit. It lies in beautiful countryside, full of sunflowers and cognac vineyards, peaceful and unspoiled yet close to the N10, giving great accessibility by road. Being set not far from the popular tourist town of Jonzac and within easy reach of the Atlantic coast and the pretty Gironde Estuary, Chevanceaux is ideally situated for easy access to all the best parts of western France.

Plenty of life
Chevanceaux is full of life, and offers a good range of shops and services enabling you to relax and enjoy life without having to drive for miles just to get the shopping in. There are a couple of small supermarkets as well as traditional local shops, and a friendly bar/tabac which is a good place to stop off for a refreshing beer and get to know the locals.

Wining and dining
It's just a village, but it boasts a few good eateries, including one which is highly recommended, called the "Grain du Sel"... translating as the "Grain of Salt". Here you can have an exceptional meal, including a three course lunch packed with delicious local specialities, for less than 12 Euros a head… and that includes wine! There are many superb restaurants to discover in the area near the village too, the local gastronomy being a source of pride in the area. Taste the Cognac which is produced not far from here and justly famed throughout the world.

Out and about
The region has a lot of wonderful places to visit, not least of which is, of course, the nearby Atlantic coast. There are endless possibilities for outdoor sports both in and out of the ocean, including swimming, sailing, windsurfing, sand yachting, kite flying and many more. The village of Chevanceaux itself has a swimming pool, and some very good riding stables. The Charente-Maritime countryside and climate are perfect for horse-riding, with great off-road paths through the vineyards and sunflower fields being both picturesque and safe, far away from traffic hazards. Walkers and cyclists too will enjoy their hobbies here.
