Boutiers Saint Trojan - drink a toast to a friendly town!
The attractive little town of Boutiers St Trojan, which is located in the central west of France, in the department of Charente, is notable for two things in particular. Firstly, for brandy and pineau, as it is just five minutes distant from the famous brandy town of Cognac, and secondly for its exceptionally friendly inhabitants. So drink a toast to Boutiers St Trojan!

Rural setting
It may be close to Cognac, but the setting and ambience of Boutiers St Trojan is distinctly rural. The countryside that surrounds the town is beautiful and peaceful, with the vines that produce the grapes for the unique local drink of pineau very much in evidence. There are some wonderful views from here too, looking out over two valleys, that of the Charente and also of the Soloire. There may not be a lot of tourist attractions in the village, but Boutiers St Trojan has a some pretty little churches (including Saint Trojan Church and Saint Marmet Church), and atmospheric traditional houses and streets.

A town of many parts
Five villages actually make up Boutiers St Trojan, although today you cannot differentiate between them due to the amount of building work that has gone on over time. These are Boutiers, St Trojan, Port Boutiers, Tuileries and Solencon.

Fine dining
Gastronomes will be very well suited in Boutiers St Trojan, as the village is close to the home of a superb chateau restaurant where the chef, Pascal Nebout, will ensure that you have a fine dining experience to remember. The setting, in the lovely Château de l'Yeuse, is also very special.

Property prices and availability in and around Boutiers Saint Trojan
The Charente is popular with both Parisian second home owners and also with the foreign property market, so prices can be higher than in the other departments of Poitou-Charentes. There are still plenty of bargains to be found though, and it is still possible to find properties in need of renovation or up dating.
