For buying and selling property in Champagne Mouton
Champagne Mouton is a traditional small market town that is found in the Charente department in the west of France. Easily reached from the UK by air, rail or road, the town is ideally located for further exploration of the region and its many attractions. The town also retains some interesting and important heritage, and is set in the gentle, rolling countryside typical of the region.
Champagne Mouton is an attractive, Charantaise town with many original features and some important monuments. The church has been named as French National Monument since the 1800s, and is well worth a visit if you enjoy ancient architecture and artefacts. There is also an original Lavoir, or communal wash house in the town, which is in good condition and creates an interesting picture of life as it used to be in Champagne Mouton.
Although the overall atmosphere is tranquil and rural, Champagne Mouton makes some concessions to the necessities of modern life in providing a useful range of small shops and services for its inhabitants and visitors. You can also enjoy a drink in a local bar or a meal out in the restaurant, while a more traditional pleasure might be to meander around the street market that sets up every Tuesday and Friday morning.
The area around Champagne Mouton is wonderful to explore. It is packed with heritage towns, picturesque villages and beautiful countryside. Towns worth a visit in the locality include Ruffec and Angoulême, with plenty of shops and restaurants; Rochechouart, with its meteorite strike site and meteorite museum; and the memorial town of Oradour sur Glane, just across the regional border into the Limousin.
In addition, there are the tourist attractions like the Futuroscope theme park at Poitiers, a delightful Monkey Park and the Charente River with opportunities for boating, swimming and fishing. Popular sporting activities in the vicinity also include other river or lake based sports, walking, horse-riding, tennis, golf and even hot air ballooning! In short, whatever your tastes, there will always be something interesting to do or somewhere to go.
Planes and trains can get you to Poitiers or Limoges (Limoges airport is served by Flybe and Ryanair, and Poitiers by Ryanair), while Angoulême also has a TGV station with links to local towns such as Ruffec. Drivers can find the town near the N10 Route Nationale, on the D740.
The Charente tends to be the priciest of the Poitou-Charentes's departments, but there is still some affordable property about. At the time of writing (September 2011), renovation projects can be snapped up for just over 30,000 Euros, while even a three bedroom, detached and ready to live in property may cost just under 160,000 Euros.
