An old town for the young
Bressuire lies in western France in the region of Poitou-Charentes and the department of Deux Sèvres. It is an old cathedral town with a population of 20,000, well supplied with beautiful and architecturally interesting buildings. Bressuire is also known as a town with a large youth population and is well supplied with schools and other facilities for young people. This makes it a good choice for property seekers with children. Bressuire is exceptionally well placed for excursions, as it is within easy reach of the beautiful beaches of the Atlantic coast, as well as man made attractions such as Futuroscope at Poitiers.
Horse-riding, swimming and many other activities are available in or near Bressuire.

Cattle and Castles
The region of Poitou Charente is famous as a breeding ground and producer of fine cattle. The land is fertile and green, with gently rolling pastures and shady wooded areas, making it some of the most idyllic countryside in France.
The ruined castle of Bressuire is a ‘must see’ if you are in the town, as it is considered to constitute the finest collection of feudal ruins in the Poitou Charente. A modern château stands within the grounds these days, but there is still much of the original castle left to view.

A market to savour
Tuesday is the most important day of the week in Bressuire, as in many other French towns. Tuesday is market day, the day when all the townspeople take their baskets and head for the market stalls to buy fresh local produce and to pass the time of day with stallholders and other shoppers as they go. One stall worth a visit here is the ‘Miel’ stall, where locally produced honey and honey products are sold. The unusual paste made from honey mixed with hazelnut butter is absolutely delicious!

There are several possibilities to choose from if you wish to travel to Bressuire by air. As the region grows in popularity more airlines are flying to local airports from the UK, which is great news for those who wish to relocate to the area, or who are seeking holiday properties here. Ryanair, the budget airline, flies into Tours, La Rochelle and Poitiers. Flybe, Air France and BA all offer services from Uk airports into Nantes.
The TGV service runs from the Channel Tunnel into Poitiers.
