Cerizay... a new beginning
The town of Cerizay, which lies in the Deux-Sèvres department in the west of France, was forced to gather its resources and create a new beginning for itself after losing both some of its inhabitants and its buildings in the second world war. The townsfolk rallied, however, and the Cerizay you find today is a successful and thriving community which exists within a very pretty setting of traditional, stone houses and the lovely rolling countryside of the Bocage. The town lies at the foot of the castle, le Château de la Roche, and this and its flamboyantly styled church give the town a distinctive character.

A town with a heart
Cerizay is a real living French town... a town with a heart. It is not a place created for tourism, but it is a town which offers a traditionally French way of life, where family life, good food and honest work create a great environment. There is a weekly farmers market, held every Saturday morning, and it is a joy to do the shopping here rather than in the claustrophobic aisles of the supermarket. (Cerizay does, however, have a supermarket too, for those days when modern convenience counts!)

Daily life in Cerizay
Daily life in Cerizay is a fairly relaxed affair, and the little town offers all the amenities you will need to keep it that way. There are banks, libraries, shops, hairdressers, a choice of private and public schools and... well, pretty much everything you can think of. Should you wish to visit a larger town you can access Niort and Poitiers very easily from Cerizay.

Leisure and pleasure
Cerizay treasures its cultural life, and offers a programme of films, theatres and art at various times of the year. There are a number of restaurants providing the chance to dine out on excellent local fare, and if you have overindulged on such delights you can work it all off as there are sports facilities and a leisure centre in the town. Close to the town you can also take part in horse-riding, swimming, fishing and cycling and even play golf. The softly rolling countryside of the Bocage is perfect for walking, and there are many pretty ancient villages and towns to discover on the way.

How to get there
The airports of La Rochelle and Poitiers are both close to the town. La Rochelle is served by Ryanair, flybe and easyJet, while Poitiers is served by Ryanair. Poitiers and Niort are also able to supply stations with TGV stops, making train travel another excellent option.

Property prices and availability in and around Cerizay
Property in Cerizay represents really good value for money. At the time of writing it compares very well with similar properties in the rest of the Poitou-Charentes region. Prices are rising, but the area has yet to gain the same popularity that has hit other parts of France, meaning that the chance of finding a bargain is far greater... and you can still find opportunities to purchase that dream house at a price you can afford!
