For buying and selling property in Couhé
You could be forgiven for thinking that the village of Couhé, in the Vienne department in western France, might not have much of interest to show you, but you would be wrong. This little place, sleepy and rural these days, has a rich history and heritage and is a fascinating place to visit.
Couhé, despite having less than 2,000 inhabitants, is well equipped with shops and services. There is a supermarket, handy for everyday shopping, plus schools, restaurants and bars. There are local shops too, with a post office, banks and all services to hand. Markets are held on Sunday mornings, with a bigger one held on the 28th of every month.
The heritage is the really interesting thing about Couhé. The village dates to the early Middle Ages, and you can spend quite some time discovering its original buildings. The old market hall is a case in point, as are the half-timbered houses with overhanging upper storeys, its church, its abbey, its castle and its narrow streets, redolent of mediaeval times.
The Vienne has a huge variety of leisure activities and places to go. The city of Poitiers is very good for shopping and dining as well as having a lovely historical sector, packed with heritage. Futuroscope, is an amazing educational theme park which offers interest and excitement for all ages. There are many other attractions within easy reach of Couhé too. Pay a visit to the Vallée des Singes, a huge park full of hundreds of varieties of monkeys, all living in natural conditions. It makes a wonderful day out.
You can also take a trip to the seaside, in the neighbouring Charente-Maritime department, where the lively and colourful seaside resorts offer sea and beach sports, entertainment for all the family and some fabulous beaches in one of the sunniest parts of France. Add to this list pre-historic sites to discover, leisure lakes and rivers for swimming, fishing and boating, wonderful walking trails, cycle tracks and bridle ways and even golf courses, and you have an area that offers something for everyone.
Poitiers has both an airport and a TGV station, so it is easy to travel from the UK to the department. Poitiers airport is served by Ryanair. Drivers can find the village almost immediately off the N10, signposted from the motorway. It lies on the D7/D2.
If you are looking for good property in a fantastic area at bargain prices, look no further than Couhé. There are some lovely properties on the market with prices from as low as 130,800 Euros at the moment (February 2012).
