Neuville de Poitou – a lively market town
Neuville de Poitou is a lively little market town that is found in the west of France, in the Poitou-Charentes department of the Vienne. The Vienne countryside is legendary in its beauty, unspoiled and rural, with fields of giant sunflowers lighting up the region with a golden glow in early summer. Neuville itself is thriving and friendly, with good amenities and excellent access to important towns such as Poitiers.

A great Sunday market
Neuville de Poitou is renowned for its fabulous Sunday market, where you can wander, browse, taste and buy the freshest and best of local produce, find colourful fashions at factory prices, chat to the stall holders to find out the latest gossip (if your French is up to it!) and generally just enjoy soaking up the utterly French atmosphere of one of the best traditional markets in the region.

Local shops and amenities
Neuville de Poitou offers a good range of useful amenities and local shops, so you won't always be getting into the car to drive to a town to pick up the daily shopping. There are boulangeries, a couple of supermarkets, good health care and all the usual services. Perhaps even more importantly, Neuville de Poitou has some excellent restaurants and a wine cave... so enjoyment is the key word here! The wine cave is the local centre for wines produced in this region, and it is highly recommended that you arrange a "tasting" visit.

Out and about
The Vienne offers so much in terms of entertainment that if you stay for ever you will still be discovering new and exciting places to go and things to do. Poitiers is a great town to visit, full of history as well as having superb shopping and dining, and the educational theme park of Futuroscope is worth a day of anyone's time, whatever the age of the group! Those who love animals will adore the Valley of the Monkeys, where hundreds of species of monkeys can be seen enjoying freedom in a lovely natural environment, while the general area offers hundreds of pretty towns and villages, and acres of lovely countryside with lakes, fields and forests to explore and enjoy.

Sporting pursuits
Those with a more sporty mindset may find that they want to try something new here, as there are many possibilities. There are water sports on several lakes in the region, and of course the beautiful open countryside is perfect for horse-riding, rambling and cycling. Golfers can find some very good courses close to Neuville de Poitou, and it is always worth remembering that the coast is reached easily enough from the town too, along with all the sporting opportunities that are found there.

How to get there
Fly to Poitiers with Ryanair for a cheap and easy way to reach Neuville de Poitou. There is also a TGV stop at Poitiers, so train travel is another good choice. Finally, the A10 motorway runs close to the town, making driving straightforward and swift from the channel tunnel or the ferry ports of the north.

Property prices and availability in and around Neuville de Poitou
The Vienne is one of the cheaper areas of France in which to purchase property, although as more people discover the beauty of this area, prices could begin to rise.
