Without the pressures to adapt to mass tourism, Cérilly continues its daily life much as it has done for centuries. It's got, however, the welcome addition of useful shops and amenities. And, it's close enough to larger towns and attractions to keep all members of the family entertained.
Whilst Cérilly is set in an extensive and unspoilt countryside, it's also a vibrant community and offers everything you'll need for your day to day life. A Carrefour supermarket provides everything from groceries to the latest fashions, while a collection of smaller shops such as boulangeries and boucheries are on hand for a more traditional style of shopping should you prefer. In fact, Cérilly also has an even more traditional way to shop, with a street market being held every Thursday.
Cérilly has some important heritage too. The Church of St Martin, complete with bell tower, and the Chapel of Dubois are both worth a look if you're interested in the architectural history of the region. Then there's the Château de la Pierre, plus the Museum of Cérilly's famous son, Charles-Louis Philippe, set in the house where the great poet was born. Of course, the natural heritage that surrounds the town deserves a mention too. The town lies in the Bourbonnais Bocage, on the edge of the celebrated Forest of Tronçais. This glorious forest dates back to the early 13th century, and is home to the oldest and finest oak trees in western Europe.

But around and about you'll also find plenty more things to do and see. Golfers can enjoy their sport at Golf Montlucon, just around 20 kilometres from Cérilly. There are also opportunities for horse-riding, swimming and fishing. The nearby mediaeval town of Bourbon l'Archambault is just down the road, as is the scenic market town of Cosne d'Allier.
There are a number of possibilities when it comes to travel to Cérilly. You can fly to Clermont Ferrand or Limoges. Other airports are possible options, but are further away. These include Poitiers, Tours, Lyon and St Etienne. You can also travel by TGV to Poitiers, Tours and Lyon. Major rail services also go to Nevers, Châteauroux, Clermont Ferrand and Limoges. If you're driving, and a car really is necessary to get the best from this area of France, you'll find the town on the D953. The nearest major roads are the N7 and E11.
