For buying and selling property in Lempdes
Lempdes (don't confuse it with the similarly named Lempdes sur Allegnon) is a good sized town which is found in the fertile volcanic landscapes of the Massif Central, in the department of Puy de Dôme in the Auvergne region of central France. The town is just outside the principal city of Clermont Ferrand, and its ease of access to the city, along with its own good amenities, ensures that everything you could need or want is always on hand.
Lempdes is an attractive place, a good blend of old and new in its architecture and attitudes. All commerce exists within the town, with a good range of shops and supermarkets, bars and restaurants, banks and schools, and there is the additional advantage of the proximity of the much larger city of Clermont Ferrand on the doorstep.
Things to see in Lempdes include the lovely Romanesque Church of Saint Stephen, built in the 13th century and the Labyrinth Park, where the corn is carefully planted to form an elaborate maze. The maze is open to visitors in the season, and don't worry, you will be issued with a map before you enter the maze so you won't be wandering around lost for eternity! The maze, known as the Volcano Maze, is created on the site of the massive agricultural school, another proud feature of Lempdes.
It goes almost without saying that if you are staying or living in Lempdes you will want to spend some time discovering the great city of Clermont Ferrand. It's true that, once upon a time, Clermont Ferrand was notable for its tyre industry rather than for its beauty or cultural significance, but things have come a long way since those dark days, and Clermont Ferrand now is a joy to visit, packed with history and culture, elegant spaces and buildings and lots to see and do.
The Puy de Dôme Volcano is another must see, as are the other lava domes in this unusual region, and the area here is also fantastic for sports. With the Tour de France often visiting, cyclists can pit themselves against the achievements of their heroes, although you will need to finds out the specific times that the roads are open to cyclists (information available from the office of tourism). Meanwhile fans of adventure sports can try their hand at paragliding. Within the region also are golf courses, riding stables, tennis courts and swimming pools, meaning that there is no chance to be bored.
The best airports to head for include Lyon or Limoges. Lyon is served by British Airways, Air France, EasyJet and Bmi Baby, while Limoges is served by Ryanair and Flybe. The airport at Clermont Ferrand does not currently offer direct flights from the UK. Lyon and Limoges also have TGV stops, and there is a railway station at Clermont Ferrand for local services. Drivers can find Lempdes easily from the A711 motorway, on the D766.
Although the region is becoming better known on the overseas property market and thus seeing some price increases, the area where Lempdes is found, around Clermont Ferrand, is still bursting with bargain property.
