You'll find a boulangerie/patisserie, (a must have in any French village worthy of the name!), a butcher's or boucherie, a restaurant which has a small art gallery attached, and even a mobile pizza van that visits every Tuesday! Of course, you will need to drive to supermarkets and to find a greater choice of restaurants, but with the main town of Aurillac nearby this really isn't a problem.
The wild and unspoiled department of the Cantal is one of France's hidden jewels. It's perfect for lovers of the great outdoors and stunning scenery. You can get into the mountains to enjoy climbing and hiking, or even skiing in the winter months. Right on the doorstep of Sansac de Marmiesse there are less energetic pursuits too, with woodland and riverside walks to be enjoyed at your own pace.
Of course, if golf is your game, there are few better places to base yourself than in the village. The local golf course, Golf de Haute Auvergne, is superb, offering a beautifully landscaped and undulating course to test and delight all enthusiasts.
Places to visit in the area include, of course, the vibrant departmental capital of Aurillac. It's a lovely traditional market town where there is always something happening to take your attention. August sees a big festival take over the town, so if you happen to be around then don't miss it! Also definitely worth a visit is the plateau town of Mauriac, noted for its fabulous street markets held twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Rodez has the closest airport and TGV station, but if you want a greater choice of flights and travelling times, Brive Vallée de la Dordogne and Clermont Ferrand airports are also close. Even Toulouse is only a couple of hours away from Sansac de Marmiesse. If you're driving you'll find the town just off the N122 non toll motorway.
