Seilhac - a town of flowers

The town of Seilhac, which is found in the Limousin region of France, is a listed "village in bloom", which makes it a very colourful place to be, especially in the summer months. Pretty and welcoming, this little town offers all amenities and is set in the lush green countryside of the Corrèze, a department which lies in the south of the region and thus makes an excellent base for exploring the Dordogne to the west, Cantal to the east and the Lot to the south.

Seilhac's chateau

Seilhac is overlooked by its superb chateau, although it is not possible to visit this as it is privately owned and not open to the public. You can, however, enjoy the romantic looks of the castle, and the historical ambience it lends to the town of Seilhac.

Notre Dame Church

Seilhac has other interesting features too, and it is worth taking a walk about town to enjoy these to the full. The 12th century Church of Notre Dame is lovely, and was restored to its full glory in 1997, after having been fire damaged back in the 17th century. Take a look at the charming old fountain, and simply enjoy the lovely and typical architecture of the buildings with their distinctively shaped grey slate roofs. The tourist office will help to point you in the right direction as you get to know Seilhac.

About town

The town has all the usual shops and services, such as health care, banks, supermarkets, and also a good selection of bars, cafés and restaurants where you can relax and enjoy the fabulous food produced in this region. Seilhac derives much of its economy from the raising of the world famous Limousin cattle, so expect to find beef on the menu just about everywhere you go!

Leisure lake - Lac de Bournazel

Seilhac benefits from the proximity of one of the many beautiful leisure lakes found in the Limousin, and this provides many opportunities for sports and relaxation. The Lac de Bournazel is set in enchantingly pretty surroundings, with trees for shade from the summer sun, grassy areas for the kids to play on and beaches for picnicking and sunbathing. All the family can enjoy the calm waters of the lake as it is manned by lifeguards in summer, to increase safety. The lake also has facilities for sailing and windsurfing.

Out and about

The geographical location of Seilhac makes it ideal for exploring the popular beauty spots of the Dordogne, or discovering the lesser known volcanic region of Cantal, famed for its wonderful cheeses. Of course, the Corrèze itself also has much to offer, with beautiful countryside, historic towns and villages and its departmental capital of Tulle.

How to get there

Flying will take you from the UK to Limoges or to Bergerac. When the new airport at Brive la Gaillard is completed and offering direct UK flights, it will be even easier to reach Seilhac by air. Meanwhile both Limoges and Bergerac are currently served by Ryanair and flybe. If you prefer travelling by train you can take a TGV to Limoges, and travelling by road you can access the town from either the A20 or the A89.
