For buying and selling property in Aulon

Aulon - a peaceful village

If escaping to the peace and quiet of the Limousin countryside in the rural heart of France appeals to you, the tiny village of Aulon could be just the place. Aulon lies sleepily in the gentle landscapes of the agricultural Creuse department and makes an ideal bolthole for anyone wanting to escape the bustle of modern life in the UK. Aulon's typically Limousain houses and streets form a small but friendly community and make a great base for enjoying many of the Limousin's attractions.

Limited shopping experiences

With only 171 residents, there isn't really a lot to Aulon. It has its little piece of heritage in the form of a 15th century church, a little corner shop which takes care of basic everyday needs, and an occasional Vide Greniers or flea market which provides a little added entertainment and shopping experience.

Additional facilities found close by

But in general, if you want to get the big weekly shop in or look for clothes, furniture or other similar goods, you will need to pop into the car and get along to the nearby towns and villages with larger facilities. It isn't a problem, though, as there are plenty of good places to go where you can find supermarkets, fashion outlets and much, much more. Gueret, the prefecture of the Creuse, is only a few kilometres away.

Enjoy lakeside activities

Aulon is not exactly action packed, but that doesn't mean it is difficult to enjoy a huge variety of activities nearby. The Lac de Courtille, situated at nearby Gueret, provides the opportunity for swimming and other water sports, while just a little further away is the vast leisure lake of Vassiviere. The area also has golf courses, horse-riding stables, tree-climbing adventure parks for the kids, good safe cycling and lots of delightful walking trails.

Visit Crozant and stunning St Leonard de Noblat

Places to add to the itinerary include the carpet town of Aubusson, the artists' village of Crozant and the stunningly beautiful town of St Leonard de Noblat.

How to get there

To reach the village, you can fly to the nearby airports of Poitiers or Limoges, or choose to travel by train instead to the same cities. Limoges Airport, which is the closest, is served by Ryanair and Flybe, while Poitiers Airport is served by Ryanair. Once in the region, you will find it is necessary to have a car, and when you are driving you will find Aulon on the intersection of the D912 and the D10. The nearest major roads are the N145 and A20.

Property prices and availability in and around Aulon

This is one of the cheapest places in France to buy property, even though it is rapidly gaining in popularity and prices are rising. Bargains are almost always available, and currently on the market, as if to illustrate this point, is a super four bedroom house for just 59,500 Euros! It needs some updating and a little TLC, but it's perfectly habitable and represents great value for money.
