For buying and selling property in Luz Saint Sauveur
Set in one of the most scenic spots in the always stunning Pyrénéan Mountains in the Hautes-Pyrénées department of south-west France, Luz Saint Sauveur is a delightful destination for all who love spectacular scenery, pure, fresh air, outdoor sports and traditional French villages. Luz has access to great outdoor activities in all seasons, and is close to attractions such as the pilgrim town of Lourdes and the up and coming hotspot ski resort of Cauterets.
The village is well supplied with shops and services, and hosts a lovely general market in its little streets every Monday. There are also restaurants and bars, and many more to be found in neighbouring towns, villages and ski resorts. The spa treatments on offer are a great way to relax and revitalise yourself, and to prepare for (or recover from!) the many sporting activities that you will doubtless wish to take advantage of in and around Luz.
Winter brings excellent skiing, with friendly resorts which are so much less crowded than those of the better known Alps, while summer offers a multitude of pleasures including walking, climbing, pony trekking, cycling, swimming, rafting, paragliding, bungee jumping and more!
Although the village is only quite small, there are several sights that are worth a look. The village was a spa in the 19th century, and still retains a spa quarter. On the left bank, one can see buildings with elegant Neo Classical facades, while on the right bank there is an altogether more mediaeval feel. Here you can find the 12th century Church of Saint Andrew, with many interesting features. Further sights include the Napoleon Bridge and a castle.
Getting out and about from a base in Luz creates so many choices you will want to extend your stay! Winter sports fans can find lots of different ski resorts on hand to cater for all tastes and abilities, and other activities associated with winter in the mountains are all offered in the locality. The pilgrim town of Lourdes, famed for Bernadette's visions of the Virgin Mary and the subsequent miracles of healing that are said to have occurred there is nearby, and deserves a visit in spite of the rather tacky "religious trinket" shops that seem to be taking over the town.
A little further afield you can head for the beaches of Biarritz for a spot of surfing, or cross the border into Spain and enjoy some bargain shopping. The local mountains are spectacular for sight seeing, bursting with nature and bringing exciting events such as the Tour de France to the town.
The nearest airport is located at Pau, although Toulouse and Biarritz are also within reasonable reach of Luz. Pau is served by Ryanair; Biarritz by easyJet and Ryanair; and Toulouse by Air France, British Airways, easyJet, Flybe and Jet2. Lourdes has a railway station for those who prefer train travel to flying, while drivers can access Luz Saint Sauveur from the D921 or D918 roads. The nearest auto route is the A64.
Property in the area can be quite reasonably priced, and certainly much cheaper than that found in similar towns in the Alps. There are many different types of property on the market, with traditional village houses, country properties for renovation and modern leaseback properties in the ski resorts.
