Hambye - a perfectly situated Norman village

Normandy has many attractions, and has long been beloved of the British people. Ideally located for short breaks and holidays taken from the UK, thanks to its ferry ports and airport at Dinard, the region is packed to the rafters with attractions, history and heritage. And the village of Hambye lies amid the very best of these. Hambye is also quite delightful in its own right. The stunning Benedictine Abbey of Hambye is a local landmark, and acclaimed as one of the best and most complete examples of its type. The village, just a few miles from the coast, makes a perfect base for idyllic holidays.

Shops, services and heritage on offer

Hambye offers heritage in addition to a number of shops, services and other amenities. There's a couple of boulangeries, so there's no shortage of croissants, baguettes and other delicious cakes and pastries. The village also has a useful supermarket, a hardware shop, a butcher's and a post office. You can also enjoy the food and ambience of a bar/restaurant, all without leaving the village. The heritage includes the beautiful Abbey, which can be visited, the Church of Saint Pierre and several historic monuments and remains of manor houses in the countryside nearby.

Take part in Hambye's festivities

Local festivities are also part of Hambye's appeal. Early April sees the ever popular Brocante fair, with antiques and oddities to pick up at knock down prices, while in July the whole village goes "en fête" with various entertainment on offer and a truly great atmosphere.

Out and about from Hambye

Hambye, being situated in central Manche, has access to all the best the region can offer. Days out might take you to see the Bayeux Tapestry, to the war memorials and beaches of the Second World war, to the mysterious beauty of Mont St Michel or to the seaside for family beach days and superb sea food restaurants.

Enjoy a round of golf or go horse-riding

If it's sporting and leisure activities that appeal, there's also no dearth of these. Several good golf courses are within easy reach of Hambye, at St Martin de Brehal, Villedieu les Poeles, Blainville sur Mer, St Martin Aubigny and Breville sur Mer. The equestrian centre in Hambye caters for horse riders at all levels. Walkers and cyclists can also gain access to beautiful and tranquil lanes and green spaces.

How to get there

Hambye is so easy to reach from the UK, thanks to its proximity to the ferry ports of Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo, and to Dinard and Rennes airports. Also the village of Villedieu, just 11 km from Hambye, has a railway station with connections to/from Paris, should you prefer travelling by train. For those driving, Hambye is found on the D51, not far from the A84 motorway.

Property prices and availability in and around Hambye

Normandy and more specifically, Hambye, offers great value for money when it comes to property. Currently, you can pick up a lovely little village house just begging to be renovated for a mere 29,000 Euros. The area is popular with holiday makers, so the chance to purchase a large property with potential to become a B&B, should also be of interest to buyers.
