For buying and selling property in Ernée
The lively market town of Ernée is set in the popular Mayenne department of the Pays de la Loire region of north-west France. The town's location makes it accessible from Paris, and also Brittany, rendering it a popular destination for holiday home seekers of many nationalities including the French. Ernée has a vibrant community and excellent amenities. It is also historic and home to some interesting sights and monuments.
Ernée is a medium sized town which has a good range of shops and services. Here you'll find supermarkets for the general weekly shopping trip, but also a wide variety of smaller shops selling local specialities and all kinds of other things from fashion to crafts. There are hairdressers, banks, post offices, garages, doctors and schools, all adding up to create a pleasant lifestyle. Market day is Tuesday, and the colourful stalls are always bursting with goodies. To make the most of the market, try to get there early as the best bargains tend to disappear fast.
Ernée is also well equipped with restaurants and bars where you can enjoy a variety of menus and relax over a glass or two with the locals. There's a public swimming pool (due for a radical make over soon to turn it into a state of the art aquatic centre) and other sports facilities.
Ernée has a long history, and there are several sights and monuments in town that are worth a visit. The Hotel de Ville (town hall) is rather beautiful, and you can also visit a cultural centre, a museum and a chapel which is a listed historic monument. The Renaissance Chateau of Pannard is very imposing. And although when we think of Dolmens, we usually associate them with Brittany, Ernée has one too. It is also a classified important monument. Ernée has Roman remains as well, so lots of history to discover.
More modern sights include the World Championship Moto Cross track where prestigious competitions are held. This is bound to keep the men in the family happy for a few hours!
Due to the town's location, you have many options when it comes to enjoying days out and exploring this part of France. The non toll motorway that is right beside the town will get you about swiftly. Brittany is just to the north- west, Lower Normandy is north and Le Mans is easily accessible to the east.
Nearer to home, there's still plenty to do and see. Laval, the departmental capital city, has a delightful old quarter, bursting with sights and cultural venues. Mayenne town has a lovely river port, and the stunning countryside of the Parc Naturel Régional de Normandie et Maine is waiting to be discovered. It's here that walkers will find a paradise of unspoilt nature to enjoy.
You can travel by air to Rennes or Dinard. Rennes is served by Flybe, and Dinard by Ryanair and Aurigny. The nearest ferry port is that of St Malo. TGVs run into Laval's station, and if you are driving, the N12 takes you right to Ernée. The A84 and A81 are the nearest auto routes.
Property in Ernée and the Mayenne is generally reasonable, but not the cheapest in France as the location makes it desirable to Parisians looking for weekend get aways and holiday homes. However, in 2012, with sellers becoming more realistic about pricing their properties, there are bargains to be found.
