Évron is a medium sized market town which lies in the rich and fertile grasslands of the Mayenne department in north-west France. It is a tranquil and historic town which offers an excellent standard of living to its residents. Situated away from the hassle and stress of city life, it is nevertheless conveniently placed for accessing Paris and the UK.
Évron is an attractive old town, but one which has kept pace with modern life and manages to supply almost all day to day requirements. There are some good shopping facilities in the town, and also a number of excellent restaurants. The gastronomy of the town benefits greatly from being in an area where agriculture is important, and the beef produced around Évron is some of the finest in France. There is a very good general market every Thursday morning, and it goes without saying that this is well worth attending!
The town is renowned for its lovely Chapel Notre Dame de l'Epine, and many visitors are drawn to the town because of this historic feature. Around and about there are many other places of interest for the traveller, and these include Roman remains, caves and grottoes, and leisure lakes with pretty beaches, ideal for swimming, sailing and family fun.
Motor sports enthusiasts can make the trip to Le Mans, where the famous 24-hour car and motorcycle races take place. Be warned, however, that Le Mans and the immediate area can be very busy for the duration of the races! For those who like to be active there is plenty of variety in and around Évron. Pony trekking and horse-riding are popular, and this is indeed superb horse country with some beautiful horses in the fields and some well known stud farms and riding establishments located here. Cycling is also popular, with walking, mini golf and rock climbing all on hand for your entertainment.
There are a number of airports within reach of Évron, and this is one of the attractions of owning property here. Paris, Angers, Rennes and Tours all offer direct flights from the UK with a variety of airlines and budgets to suit all pockets. Fly to Rennes with flybe or Aer Lingus, Angers with flybe, Tours with Ryanair or Paris with Air France, bmi, bmibaby, flybe, British Airways, easyJet, Jet2, Thomsonfly or Aer Lingus. Eurostar will take you to Paris from where you can link to national rail services, and the ferry ports are all within an easy half days drive of the town.
Property prices in the Mayenne as a whole are reasonable, especially for a region which offers such good accessibility to the capital. Largely rural and undiscovered by the foreign property market, things are only just beginning to change, and this means that getting in now may maximise a good investment.
