For buying and selling property in Javron les Chapelles
Javron les Chapelles is a small and attractive market town found amid the green countryside of the Mayenne department of the Pays de la Loire region in north-western France. The town is actually an amalgamation of two neighbouring villages: Javron and Les Chapelles. The town has a thriving community life and is ideal for families as there are primary schools in the village and plenty of good facilities for children. The location, in the north of the region, also allows easy access to Lower Normandy and the coast.
The town is quite small, but there is plenty going on and a good selection of amenities. Shops and services include a boulangerie, a small supermarket, a bank, a pharmacy and even a couple of bars and restaurants for your enjoyment. Market day is Friday.
The main sight in Javron les Chapelles is the Romanesque church of John the Baptist, but the town also has plenty of traditional buildings to see. Among the other attractions are some super sports and entertainment facilities for kids, with a great skate park and paint ball beside the town, and a fabulous leisure lake just half an hour distant.
The Mayenne, being the most northerly of the departments of the Pays de la Loire, is easily accessed from the ports of Caen and St Malo, and this of course also means that it is easy to reach the lovely coast of Lower Normandy for great seaside days out. Closer to home, almost on the doorstep, in fact, is the delightful and chic spa town of Bagnoles de l'Orne. The main town of Laval is also easy to get to for big shopping days or to soak up a little local culture while enjoying the mediaeval ambience.
Out in the countryside, and there is lots of it as the Mayenne is a predominantly rural and agricultural area, there are lots of outdoor activities to try. The department is perfect for walkers, cyclists and horse riders, as the roads are usually quiet and safe, while the Parc Naturel Regional de Normandie et Maine provides thousands of acres of unspoilt forests and hills and is a haven for wildlife.
Travelling by ferry to Caen or St Malo is a good way to access the area, but you can also take a ferry to Cherbourg or Le Havre. Alternatively, if you prefer to fly, the airports of Rennes, Dinard, Nantes, Tours and even Paris are all within reach. Rennes is served by Flybe; Dinard by Ryanair; Nantes by Flybe, easyJet, Ryanair and Air France; Tours by Ryanair; and Paris by a multitude of airlines. The TGV will get you to Le Mans, should you prefer the train, and if driving, drivers should follow the N12. Javron les Chapelles can then be accessed via the D518 or D242.
The Mayenne, although popular with Parisians wishing to own a bolthole from the capital for peaceful weekends in the country, still has some surprisingly affordable property. Currently the local market offers several properties, some in need of renovation, which are perfect for equestrian use or for those wanting a real, rural lifestyle. As this type of property is becoming harder and harder to find in much of France, Javron les Chapelles really stands out as a fantastic location for finding low priced country/landed property.
