For buying and selling property in Saint Pierre des Nids
Saint Pierre des Nids is a very pretty town that sits in the beautiful rural surroundings of the north-eastern Mayenne, near to the Pays de la Loire/Lower Normandy border. This location means that all the attractions of not one but two beautiful regions are accessible, and gives Saint Pierre a distinct advantage!
Saint Pierre is a lively little town, and its facilities belie its relatively small size. Shops include all the usual suspects of boulangeries (bakers), boucheries (butchers), shops selling fruits and vegetables, and the local services on offer are pretty extensive also. There are hairdressers and beauticians to make sure you look your best at all times, driving schools, builders merchants and even a dentist for horses, so if your equine pal has a toothache you know exactly where to turn! More seriously, if you do happen to be a keen equestrian you should really take a look at this area as it is ideal for keeping horses, having a temperate and pleasant climate and lush, green meadows.
The town is proud of its community spirit, and the Office de Tourisme is happy to point visitors or residents in the direction of the best things to do and see in the region. Walkers and horse riders, especially, will find some wonderful randonnées or marked trails in the surrounding countryside.
With all the attractions of Lower Normandy (Mont St Michel, the War Memorial Sites, the beaches) on the doorstep it is easy to find ways to spend your free time. Don't forget that the lesser known Mayenne and Sarthe departments also have plenty to offer. Turn south occasionally instead of north and you will discover some stunning landscapes, great forests and leisure lakes where swimming and water sports provide something for all the family to enjoy. Here too are towns and villages with history and heritage in very generous helpings.
The listed "most beautiful village" of Saint Ceneri le Gerei, is just a few kilometres away from the town of Saint Pierre des Nids, and should not be missed. Another must see is Alençon, capital city of Normandy's Orne department and again, almost on the doorstep.
The best airports to head for are Rennes, Tours or Paris. Rennes is served by Flybe, Tours by Ryanair, and Paris by a multitude of airlines. But there are other options to flying. The nearest ferry ports are Caen, St Malo Cherbourg and Le Havre, while rail travel can bring you to Le Mans with ease. If driving, the town is found on the D121/D144 roads, very close to the N12 non toll motorway. The A28 auto route is also close by.
Anyone wanting to live in northern or north-western France but who wants to buy on a tight budget, should take a careful look at what's on offer in and around Saint Pierre des Nids. It's a lovely and lively little town, great for settling into a new life or even as a base for holidays as there are so many good things nearby. Property is often surprisingly cheap, and with current prices (December 2011) beginning at just 17,950 Euros (although there is, admittedly, a little work to do to this one before you can move in) almost anyone can make the dream of owning a French property come true.
