Coex, which is a small yet bustling market town, is found in the enchanting countryside of the Vendée department of western France, just a few miles inland from the fabulous beaches of the Atlantic coast. Coex is attractive and traditional, yet equipped with everything you might need for day to day living, and very well situated offering easy access to many of the best attractions of the region.
Coex is one of those places that lies somewhere between a town and a village, having a population of around 3,000, but its overall feel is that of a rural market town. Saturday is market day, and there can be few more pleasant ways to spend your Saturday mornings than browsing the stalls and enjoying all the scents and colours of this great little French institution. There are, of course, more conventional ways to shop in Coex too, with local shops (bakers, butchers, greengrocers), a supermarket, banks, post office etc, while the nearby towns of St Gilles Croix de Vie and Aizenay offer a choice of hypermarkets for those once a week large shopping trips!
Coex is also able to offer the pleasures of several bars and restaurants, with many more available in the surrounding towns and villages. The little town is very pretty, noted for its floral displays in summer, and is also the home of a really lovely botanical garden, the appropriately named Perfumed Garden, or, in French "Le Jardin des Olfacties".
The Vendée is a great favourite with holidaymakers, and anyone who visits the area around Coex has access to the best of this beautiful part of France. Close to Coex is a fabulous golf centre, not just an excellent eighteen-hole course, but also offering great training facilities. Sports other than golf available in the locality also include horse-riding, walking and cycling. Water sports, fishing and swimming are found at local leisure lakes and, of course, at the beautiful Vendée coast which is just eight miles from the town of Coex.
St Gilles Croix de Vie, a near neighbour of Coex, is a beautiful seaside and port town that has a lively, holiday ambience and the well known resort and international yachting venue of Les Sables d'Olonne is only a short drive away.
The two nearest airports are located at Nantes and La Rochelle, and both offer direct flights from the UK. La Rochelle is served by Flybe, Ryanair, easyJet and Jet2, while Nantes is served by Air France, Ryanair and easyJet. Those who prefer to take the ferry and drive down to the region will find it takes around two and a half hours from St Malo, which is the nearest of the ports. Coex lies on the D6 road, the nearest major roads being the A87 and the A83.
The Vendée is a very desirable area, but away from the coastal towns and popular resorts property prices can be very reasonable. Coex has some great golf properties, so if you dream of waking up with a superb course right on your doorstep, Coex could be just the place!

Access: By air: Fly to Nantes or La Rochelle. By ferry: St Malo is the nearest ferry port, at around a two and a half hour's drive away from Coex. By road: Coex lies on the D6 road.
Economy: The economy is mixed, with agriculture, commerce and tourism significant.
Interesting fact: Coex is an excellent base for golfers, being near a superb golf centre.
