La Châtaigneraie is an historic little town that lies near the border with the Deux-Sèvres department, combining the best of the two departments and their respective regions. Basing yourself in this town gives access to the lively seaside resorts of the Vendée coast, the peaceful rolling countryside of the Bocage, the unique Green Venice waterways and marshes of the Deux-Sèvres, and a multitude of lovely old market towns and heritage sights.
The main sight in La Châtaigneraie is the town's church, which has some stunning stained glass windows and is well worth a look. Many of the town's buildings are historic, and the atmosphere is that of a tranquil, traditional Vendéen town. La Châtaigneraie, however, has a good complement of shops and services to make life easy and pleasant. Shops, supermarkets, café's and restaurants can all be found within the town limits, so there is no need to travel long distances for those everyday necessities, or even to treat yourself to a lunch or evening out.

The beautiful market town of Fontenay le Compte is on the doorstep, and a market day visit (Saturday) is highly recommended.
