For buying and selling property in La Tranche sur Mer
The town of La Tranche sur Mer is located in the Vendée department on the west coast of France. La Tranche is a pretty town with its white rendered houses and charming little streets. Its eight miles (thirteen kilometres) of safe sandy beaches make it extremely popular with the tourists too. Several of the beaches, unlike many in this region, are set so that they face to the south, thus making them safer for children than the rather wild west facing coastline. La Tranche sur Mer is also fortunate in being placed against a backdrop of glorious aromatic forests of tall Scots pines and stately oaks.
La Tranche sur Mer has just about every thing you could want. There is a doctor, a dentist, a pharmacy... and if you aren't planning on being ill or having toothache you can also find a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants to occupy you in the town!
The Tourist Office can supply you with information to help you find your way around town, and also to keep you informed of events and festivals. If you have children you won't want to miss the Festival of Games held in the month of May, for example, and in the summer there are various events including the excellent "La Déferlante" festival of street theatre and many other organised and impromptu entertainments.
During the season the shops are full of surf gear and fashions, and there is a real buzz to the atmosphere as the young and trendy come to town to enjoy their sports of surfing and windsurfing. The bars and cafés are filled with laughter and chatter, and the resort also hosts an important windsurfing championship every year. La Tranche sur Mer is ideal for windsurfing, as the west coast beaches with their southerly aspects get just the right amount of wind and waves for this popular sport. Most other water sports can be practised here as well, and you can also find horse-riding, cycling, fishing and tennis in or close to the resort.
There are plenty of interesting places to visit from a base in La Tranche sur Mer, and lots of things to do. A day trip to Île de Ré is a great way to spend some time, as this beautiful island is very close at hand and never fails to delight with its clarity of light and a picturesque charm that has inspired artists for generations. La Rochelle, the busy and picturesque port is also close by, or you could travel inland to discover the mediaeval and renaissance delights of Fontenay le Comte.
Getting to La Tranche sur Mer is easy and inexpensive thanks in no small part to the budget airline Ryanair, who run a service into Nantes airport. You can also fly with Aer Arann or GB Airways. The nearby towns of La Roche sur Yon and Les Sables d'Oloron both have train stations so the train is a good alternative. If you are travelling by road from Paris, you will need to take the A11 in the direction of Nantes until you change to the A83 to head towards Bordeaux. Finally you will see a turn off marked La Tranche sur Mer, and this road is the D747 which takes you directly to the town.
In general, coastal property is expensive, and you must always expect to pay more for a house on the sea than a similar place inland. La Tranche sur Mer is a popular town with excellent amenities and although these attributes ensure that prices are by no means the cheapest in France, it is usually possible to find some very interesting properties at reasonable prices if you look hard enough and are prepared to move swiftly when you find what you want.
