Longeville sur Mer is a delightful family-orientated seaside resort which is found in the south of the Vendée department in western France. With its historic town, beautiful clean beaches and access to the Marais Poitevin marshes and waterways, the resort is a perfect destination for lovers of the sea, the sun and a life in the fresh air.
Longeville is a lively little town, well equipped with everything you will need for a pleasant stay or longer term living. The town has a small supermarket and a grocery store which supply all the basics, while just out of town there is a large Super U supermarket carrying more lines. Various other local shops (including, of course, the essential "boulangeries"!) exist within the town itself, and Longeville is also well supplied with friendly bars and cafés, as well as some excellent restaurants. The town has two doctors on hand to help with any medical needs.
Mondays and Fridays see the colourful traditional street markets arrive in town, and there can be few more truly French experiences than wandering around the stalls, breathing in the enticing aromas and tasting the local specialities.

Family friendly and rarely too crowded, the beaches of Le Bouil and Le Rocher are ideal for calm seaside days, while the beach known as Les Conches is perfect for surfing and other seaside sports. It's a wonderful area for sports fans. On the beaches and waters of Longeville sur Mer you can try your hand at surfing or sand yachting under the expert guidance of a first rate surfing school, in addition to enjoying the more mundane pleasures of swimming and sunbathing. Accommodation is plentiful in and around the town, with gites, hotels and chamber d'hotes, and there are also numerous campsites which provide a cheap and cheerful way to experience the area.
The town itself is located in the south of the Vendée, and there are many great places to visit nearby. Seaside resorts are plentiful, reaching all along the department's coast, with Les Sables d'Olonne being one of the best to visit. The bustling port town of La Rochelle is always good for a day out, as is the beautiful Ile de Ré. Travelling inland, the gorgeous historic town of Fontenay le Comte awaits you. A further attraction of the area is the Marais Poitevin, a network of waterways running through marshlands which are full of rare species of plants and wildlife, and where unique crops are grown.
The nearest airports that offer direct flights from the UK are those of Nantes and La Rochelle. Nantes is served by Air France, Ryanair and EasyJet, while La Rochelle is served by Flybe, Ryanair, EasyJet and Jet2. The port of St Malo is just some 300 kilometres distant, so the ferry is a realistic option allowing you the luxury of travelling in your own car. Rail travel will get you to Les Sables d'Olonne (33 kilometres from Longeville) by TGV, while drivers can find the town along the D105 and D21 roads. The A87 is the nearest major road.
The Vendée is a popular area, and seaside properties are always pricier than those found inland, so this area is unlikely to offer the lowest priced properties in the country!
