For buying and selling property in Mervent
Accessible from the UK and close to the many attractions of the west of France, Mervent is a super location for a holiday home or permanent new life in France. The Vendée benefits from a sunny climate with mild winters, thanks to the Atlantic Oceanic effect, and is popular with holidaymakers thanks to its lovely countryside, golden sandy beaches and lively resorts. Buying a property in or near to Mervent brings the benefits of this delightful department to your doorstep. The Mervent Vouvant Forest surrounds you, the lovely Renaissance town of Fontenay le Comte is your near neighbour, and the Vendée's beaches and seaside attractions are but a short drive away. What could be better?
Mervent is best known for its natural heritage, although the village does have a built heritage to see as well. Sadly, the foundations are now all that remain of the original castle, but the ancient church still stands and is certainly worth a look. The houses are unassuming but typical of the region and many have authentic and original features. However, it is the natural heritage of Mervent that really shines. There can be few places on earth so idyllic. The Forest of Mervent Vouvant is a green paradise of woodlands, walking trails, nature and waterways and lakes.
Mervent is not a large village, and it is decidedly rural, but it has some useful and pleasant amenities all the same. A handful of shops offer most everyday needs, and a few bars and a couple of restaurants complete the picture. Just a short drive away (about ten minutes) is the stunning town of Fontenay le Comte, where there are supermarkets, many restaurants and all shops and services.
Being set in the Mervent Vouvant Forest means that Mervent is a perfect location for lovers of outdoor activities. Walkers will be in heaven, as the forest trails go on for ever in an atmosphere of plain nature and utter tranquillity. You can also enjoy seeing the countryside from horseback or a cycle. The lake at Mervent is great for swimming, kayaking, sailing and fishing.
Fontenay le Comte is a must visit town. Set within three circles of fortifications, it is simply bursting with heritage and beauty, but also offers all mod cons and pleasures. Nantes is a great city to visit, as is Niort. Heading for the coast, La Rochelle is one of the most vibrant and exciting port towns you could ever hope to find, while all the beaches and resorts of the Vendée are easily accessible for days out. While at the coast, take a look at the Island of Noirmoutier, famed for its sea salt. If you have kids, resorts like Saint Jean de Monts have plenty of child friendly entertainment.
The area is so easy to get to from the UK, with a wide choice of airports, including La Rochelle, Nantes and Poitiers. TGV stations can be found in these towns too. It's easy to drive to as well. The village is found just near the A83 auto route, from the D99.
The property market in Mervent offers something to suit all pockets. With a village house currently for sale at just 79,800 Euros, it can't be said to be too expensive. But if you have a higher budget there are also some really stunning properties on offer at the time of writing (May 2012).
