For buying and selling property in Villaines la Juhel
The market town of Villaines la Juhel is a very attractive and traditional French market town which is found in the north-west of central France, in the Loire Valley. Set in the soft, undulating countryside of the Mayenne, the town enjoys delightful rural surroundings and is very popular with cyclists, horse-riders and walkers.
Sir Bob Geldof may have famously sung about not liking Mondays, but even he would love Mondays in Villaines la Juhel! This is the day when the market sets up in the town, and the usually tranquil scenes become those of hustle and bustle, of gossip and chatter, of colours and tantalising aromas. It is worth setting the alarm and getting down there early, because if you don't you will find you have missed the best of the bargains... and the fun!
Villaines la Juhel isn't a large town, but it does offer all the usual amenities associated with a comfortable modern lifestyle. All the essential "French" shops are on hand, such as a boulangerie, patisserie, boucherie, etc... and you can also find a supermarket, bank, petrol station and sports facilities, including a lovely outdoor swimming pool to keep the kids occupied (and cool!) in the summer. On top of this (to keep the adults happy!), there are a good few bars and restaurants in the town.
If you want to explore the immediate area, there is plenty to see. If you are a sporty type, try exploring on a bicycle (bike hire available locally if you don't have your own) or perhaps on horseback... there are some stables nearby. For those of you who prefer "Shanks Pony", you may not cover as much ground but you will be assured of some beautiful and safe walking in the countryside near Villaines la Juhel. The town is adjacent to a cool forest whose shade offers welcome respite from the summer heat, and there is also a leisure lake at Sillé sur Guilaume, where you can sail, swim, fish, kayak or simply sunbathe! Other places to visit (though you will need a car) include Le Mans, where the famous motor races take place, the spa town of Bagnoles de l'Orne, which also has a great golf course, and the department capital of Laval.
The airports of Tours and Dinard are both fairly close to the town, and both offer flights with budget airline Ryanair, making air travel easy and economical. Dinard is also served by Aurigny. Rail travel is also a possibility, as there is a station at the nearby town of Alençon. Finally, if you are keen to travel by boat and car, the ports of St Malo and Caen are only around a two-hour drive from Villaines la Juhel.
At the time of writing, property in and around Villaines la Juhel is reasonably priced compared with that in much of France. This is gradually changing, however, and competition from Parisians seeking second homes is pushing prices up.
