For buying and selling property in Bandol

Bandol is possessed of all of nature's bounty

Bandol, a seaside town lying in south-eastern France in the hallowed region of Provence, is a place that is truly possessed of all of nature's bounty. Sitting under a hot Provençal sun, the resort has sandy beaches, pretty rocky inlets, romantic creeks, pine clad hillsides and vineyards that produce some of the best loved wines in the south of France.

Bandol is a favoured holiday spot

Bandol is the favoured holiday spot of many. Not just a favourite of foreigners like the Brits, but the French too love to come to enjoy the many charms of Bandol, and if there is a drawback to life in this beautiful corner of France, it is probably just this... that the town is a little too popular for its own good and can be very busy in the summer months.

A lively marina with great ambience

It's a drawback you can live with though, when set against all the positives! Where else can you find such blue skies, such calm seas, such golden sunshine and cool, dark, aromatic forests? Add to this the lively atmosphere of the marina, where pleasure boats and fishing craft moor up and sail in and out, creating an irresistibly happy and colourful Mediterranean ambience.

Buzzing with promise

Bandol in the summer months positively buzzes with the promise of excitement... there is always something going on, something to see, something to do. There are the markets, of which there is at least one a day. (The market selling fresh fruits, vegetables and fish is held every day while another, larger general market is held every Tuesday.)

Shops for everyone

There are shops too, not just the usual range of boulangeries, chocolateries, boucheries and supermarkets (although these are there in abundance of course), but also specialist art and craft shops, designer clothes shops, and, obligatorily, wine shops that showcase the proudest produce of Bandol, its excellent reds, whites and rosés.

Dining in Bandol

Bandol offers plenty of opportunities for socialising, and the restaurants, bars and cafés that line the seafront and also straggle up into the town, are legendary. Bandol has something to offer all age groups and tastes, with the fast snack foods (burgers, crepes, pizzas) so beloved of the young available as well as fine dining on traditional French fare.

Bandol appellation wines are well respected

Whatever and wherever you eat, however, don't pass up the chance to try the local wines. Whilst not quite classed with the thoroughbreds of Bordeaux and Burgundy, the wines of the Bandol appellation are well respected and thoroughly enjoyable, whatever colour you choose.

Late night activities in Bandol

For those looking for a little after hours entertainment, Bandol will not disappoint. The area near the marina is home to a good selection of music bars and a couple of night clubs. There is also a casino for those times when you are feeling lucky.

Out and about

Bandol has a great beach culture, with water sports and outdoor pursuits high on the list of things to experience in the town. This part of coastal Provence is never short of opportunities to take part in outdoor sports, so in or close to Bandol you will find golf, horse-riding, sailing, windsurfing, surfing, swimming, paragliding, sea kayaking, cycling and lots more. There's a lot for the kids to do too, with an interesting little zoo to visit on the Route de Sanary sur Mer when they are bored with the beach!

Slightly further afield

Exploring a little further afield is rewarding, and there are so many lovely places to see on this Mediterranean coast and in the hilly interior. Bandol is well situated and you can take a trip to the famous St Tropez, if the fancy takes you, or to the departmental capital Toulon, or to the lovely old town of Aix en Provence.

How to get there

To reach Bandol you can fly to Marseille, Nice or Toulon. Marseille is served by British Airways, easyJet, Ryanair and Aer Lingus; Nice by British Airways, bmibaby, easyJet, bmi, Jet2, flybe, Air France and Aer Lingus; and finally Toulon by Ryanair. Rail travel is also a possibility with a TGV station at Toulon and also a railway station in Bandol itself. So you could take the TGV to Toulon, and then a local train to Bandol. If driving, take the A6 to Lyon from Paris, then the A7 towards Marseille, followed by the A50 to Toulon. Bandol is signposted from there.

Property prices and availability in and around Bandol

Bandol is a favoured place with many well to do property seekers, so don't expect to pick up many cheap properties here. Once purchased, however, property tends to hold its value well, and rental incomes are also good as the town is a popular destination for holiday makers. For those seeking property to use as a holiday home and perhaps as to rent out as well, Bandol has some luxurious new build apartments which are ideal for this use.
