For buying and selling property in La Garde Freinet
La Garde Freinet occupies a commanding position on top of a rocky hill, gazing out over the stunning landscapes of Provence. This sleepy old village is both pretty and well located, being just fifteen kilometres from the famous seaside resort of Saint Tropez. La Garde Freinet also benefits from the gorgeous sunshine and long, hot summers that are such a feature of Provence. The village is self-contained, with good local shops and amenities.
La Garde Freinet is quite a small village, but it's got a fair complement of shops and services. There are plumbers, electricians, a doctor, a dentist, a post office and of course hairdressers. Then there's a bank, a couple of mini supermarkets, a petrol station and the usual collection of local shops such as butchers, bakers and gift/craft shops. It's well equipped with cafés and restaurants, always a very pleasant part of life in Provence! Supermarkets and larger shops are easily accessed in nearby towns such as Grimaud, and of course, all the glamour and sophistication of Saint Tropez is just a short drive away.
The village is typically Provencal, and whilst not on the major heritage map, it offers several authentic and original buildings that are worth seeing. The church is from the 16th century, with an 18th century bell tower. The narrow streets of the oldest parts of La Garde Freinet are intriguing, carved through the rock, and the views over the forests below are spectacular. Walking about the village you will come across an old fountain and a lavoir. A little further afield, set high above the La Garde Freinet, there are the ruins of the 12th century Fort Freinet and its village to discover.
Small villages such as La Garde Freinet tend not to be equipped with modern amenities such as large sports centres, but you won't feel the lack of this for a minute. Natural leisure activities like walking are popular, and the village does have an outdoor swimming pool, open in the summer months. But if you want to try your hand at water skiing or scuba diving all you have to do is head down to the coast. Locally there are vineyards to visit and wines to taste, vibrant local markets to browse, heritage sites to discover and big resorts and grand old towns like Nice to see. La Garde Freinet offers an intoxicating blend of life in a quaint, authentic Provencal hill village alongside the buzz and tourist attractions of the Med.
The cities of Toulon, Nice and Marseille all have excellent air, road and rail connections, so getting to the area is simplicity itself. You'll need a car, though, to reach La Garde Freinet itself, which lies on the D558, near the main A8/A57 motorways.
Property in and around La Garde Freinet tends to offer more for your money than property in the highly popular coastal resorts, though it still doesn't come in at the cheap end of the spectrum. The hills of inland Provence are only slightly less popular a destination than the coast, so prices in pretty villages like this one can be high. However, holiday rentals are also desirable here, so the potential to make money from your La Garde Freinet property is part of the deal.
