For buying and selling property in La Seyne sur Mer
The town of La Seyne sur Mer lies on the Mediterranean coast, close to the city of Toulon in the Var department of Provence. It is a typically southern town with a superb climate and a laid back atmosphere. Backed by the lovely densely wooded hills that rise up from the coast, La Seyne sur Mer has all the amenities you would expect from a Provençal seaside resort, as well as a genuine heart and culture.
The town has a history that includes being fortified and defended by none other than the young Napoleon Bonaparte and also becoming the most important shipbuilding centre of France. It was later developed into a seaside resort as well, due largely to popular demand. Its glorious climate and prime location attracted so many holiday makers and day trippers that the authorities decided to make the necessary adjustments!
You won't want to miss the old parts of town in La Seyne sur Mer, even if you are really heading for the beach. Here there are charming little streets and ancient buildings, and you can visit the Napoleon Museum, the Church of Notre Dame de Bon Voyage, the Naval Museum and the forts of Balaguier and l'Eguillette.
There is a rich heritage and culture still in evidence in La Seyne sur Mer, and you can still wander down to the fish quay and see the catch of the day arriving. Eat at one of the town's many superb seafood restaurants later in the day secure in the knowledge that your fish really is fresh!
The town plays host to a myriad of cultural events, and whatever the time of year you are almost bound to find something on to entertain you, although the summer is clearly the busiest. Choose to watch the tall ships come into harbour, take part in the many beach based events and promotional fun and games, attend concerts and outdoor theatre events or visit museums and art exhibitions. You can even play Bingo... though it is known as Loto here!
It doesn't matter what sport you are seeking, you are bound to find it in or close to this town. The Var is so well supplied with sporting activities and opportunities that you will probably discover something you have never tried before as well. The Mediterranean offers swimming, fishing, surfing, sailing, volleyball and sunbathing. The town has a swimming pool and leisure facilities including tennis courts and cycle hire, and walkers can head for the hills behind the town to enjoy the beautiful Provençal landscapes and forests.
Provence is very easily accessible from the UK due to its long standing position as a favourite holiday centre. Fly to Nice, Toulon or Marseille. Toulon is served by Ryanair; Marseille by British Airways, Aer Lingus, easyJet and Ryanair; and Nice by Air France, British Airways, bmi, bmibaby, easyJet, Jet2 and Aer Lingus. Or you can take the Eurostar followed by the TGV to Marseille or Toulon. Even the long drive through France is very pleasant and takes in some outstanding scenery.
Provençal property prices are on the high side. There is no escaping the fact that if you want to live in France's most desirable location you will have to pay a premium. Those seeking a little luxury will have a good choice in La Seyne sur Mer, however, as the town is well supplied with exceptional villas. Holiday lets are also popular here, so there is a good rental income to be had from letting out your property in the busy season.
