Chevenoz is a tranquil Alpine village, which has a stunning setting between the ski slopes and Lake Geneva. Traditional and picturesque, Chevenoz is the ideal location for those who have a group where some members of the party want easy access to the slopes, yet includes others who prefer to walk, relax, visit local heritage sites and simply enjoy fresh Alpine air and tranquillity.
Chevenoz is certainly not the destination for those who want a wild nightlife and designer shops, but it has a perfect charm for anyone who loves the beauty of the countryside, the lakes and mountains of this unique Alpine area. There isn't much in the village itself, though it has a school, an old church, a library and a "salle des fetes" (party room for village functions) along with a couple of bars and a small shop.
However, the surrounding towns and villages have plenty of good restaurants serving traditional Savoyard fare. Shopping too, needs to be done in neighbouring towns, but with lively spa towns like Evian les Bains and Thonon les Bains close by there is no need to worry about getting everything you need.
The Abondance Valley and commune has plenty of heritage to show off, and touring the six villages of the commune (of which Chevenoz is one) is a very pleasant way to discover it. Traditional Alpine chalets are the order of the day here, rather than concrete high-rise apartment blocks, and you can get a real taste of mountain life. The village is surrounded by lovely old farms, and many offer the chance to visit and taste the produce such as delicious mountain cheeses for which the region is famed.
The ski resorts are near at hand, with the Portes du Soleil ski area offering superb skiing and other snow sports, and the spa towns of Thonon les Bains and Evian les Bains are also great to visit, whether or not you decide to avail yourself of a spa treatment! Finally, Lake Geneva, with its chic air, its shops, restaurants and water sports is an absolute "must visit".
The nearest airports are located in Geneva, Lyon and Chambéry, with Geneva being the closest. These are served by a multitude of airlines between them. Trains run into various towns around the Haute-Savoie, with TGV stations in Lyon and Geneva linking to many local services. Chevenoz lies on the D32.
Property around Chevenoz isn't cheap, but then Alpine property in stunning locations with access to ski slopes and Lake Geneva rarely is.
