Le Petit Bornand les Glières is a tranquil village set in an idyllic Alpine valley in the Haute-Savoie department of the French Alps. Proud of its Savoyard heritage and traditions, the village retains an authenticity that can be lacking in bigger, better known Alpine locations. The beauty and peace of the valley in which Le Petit Bornand les Glières lies, makes it a perfect Alpine getaway for lovers of the mountains and the great outdoors.
Le Petit Bornand les Glières and its attendant hamlets offer a chance to experience a genuine Savoyard life, whilst remaining within reach of ski resorts, spa towns and large towns for shopping and amenities. In and around the village there is small scale commerce, including a local boulangerie, cheesemakers, as well as several restaurants within easy reach. There's also a village school, a pharmacy and a library. And, for those summer days when you want to get active but have done enough mountain walking and fancy a swim or a game of tennis, there's a swimming pool and tennis courts too. Nearby towns offer all shopping facilities including supermarkets.
In the village itself is the Presbytery of Le Petit Bornand les Glières. The natural heritage includes the Pass of the Glières and the Headland of the Tours.
The village has plenty of activities available in all seasons. The lovely valley is the perfect place to enjoy calm walks, taking in the glorious scenery and breathing the clean mountain air. Skiing is, of course, popular in winter, as are many other winter and snow sports, and you don't have to travel far to get to the slopes and resorts. Summer brings with it opportunities for mountain biking, mountain climbing, horse-riding and even bungee jumping!
The lovely lakeside town of Annecy is not too far away, and really should be on the itinerary while you're in the area. Saint Jean de Sixt, a near neighbour of Le Petit Bornand les Glières is also worth a visit, as there's a great traditional cheese farm to see - the best way to discover the fabulous specialities of the Alps! Then there's Bonneville, with monuments and a castle to see.
Choose from Geneva, Grenoble, Chambéry and Lyons as your points of arrival in the area. It's possible to travel by rail or air. Additional ski trains run in the winter season. If driving, you'll find the village on the D12, near the A40 motorway. Coach travel is also an alternative way of travelling to the region.
Its prime location in such a lovely part of the Alps means that Le Petit Bornand les Glières isn't really the cheapest place to find property. However, with some excellent plots and properties priced from just 168,000 Euros in 2013, a place of your own in this lovely village may be within reach after all!
