Once upon a time Neuvecelle was a little farming village, but with the march of time it has metamorphosed into a lively town of great charm and some substance. Its historic buildings include a lovely church and the ancient Chapelle de Maraiche, with other sights of interest being a picturesque harbour on the southern shores of the lake, and a park with wonderful flowers, walks and open spaces.
Neuvecelle and its neighbour, the famed spa town of Evian les Bains, offer a veritable cornucopia of shops, bars, restaurants and other entertainment. The superb cuisine of the Alps is on offer in the restaurants and also in the markets and speciality shops. Try the cheeses especially, as they are arguably the best in all of France... and for a country that has the reputation of producing the best cheeses in the world, this is a real accolade!
Lake Geneva is world famous, and rightly so. The calm waters invite you to take a boat trip which is perhaps the very best way to enjoy the scenery, but if you are a bit of a landlubber there is still plenty to do here. The town has a great pony club, perfect for keeping the kids happy, and there are all manner of sporting facilities around and about such as tennis courts, cycle hire and great walking trails. Even golfers, who can find themselves neglected in certain parts of France, will be able to continue their game in this area, with a number of courses available.
Sightseers will love this area, as the mountains, lakes, old towns and character villages will keep them happy for endless days out. Photographers too will be in their element, as of all the places on the earth it is hard to find better photographic opportunities than there are on the doorstep of Neuvecelle. Try capturing sunsets over the lake, or perhaps better still, get up early in the morning and snap the kaleidoscope of colours that reflect in the glassy waters as the sun begins its day. Switzerland is just a very short distance away, as are the ski resorts and slopes of the Alps. The neighbouring town of Evian les Bains has spa treatments that will make you feel ten years younger, and casinos where you can spend an evening or two if you are feeling lucky!
Your best option is to fly into Geneva with British Airways, Air France, easyJet, Aer Lingus, flybe or Jet2. It is also possible to travel by Eurostar to Paris, then take a TGV to Lyon. If driving, you'll find Neuvecelle near the D24 or D21.
