For buying and selling property in Vacheresse
Vacheresse is a small Alpine village that lies between the ski slopes of the Portes du Soleil ski area and the waters of the elegant Lake Geneva. With its blend of modern and traditional buildings, Vacheresse is small and peaceful, yet has a real community spirit. The village is ideally located for those who want access to the great ski resorts of the Alps yet also to enjoy the pretty Alpine countryside, the chic elegance of Lake Geneva and the inimitable heritage of this lovely part of France.
There are a few modern buildings, mainly serving the holiday trade, but Vacheresse also retains many original Savoyard chalet style houses. Although the village is fairly quiet, there are a couple of restaurants offering meals of a good standard, and a café bar (the Café of the Mairie). There is a boulangerie in Vacheresse however, so those essential morning croissants and fresh baguettes are on hand! An unusual addition to the village is a paragliding school, so if you have ever fancied trying this exhilarating sport, this is the place to go.
Vacheresse is part of the commune of Abondance, and between the six towns and villages that make up the commune, there are shops, ski and sports equipment hire locations, health care services and schools. Nearby towns such as Evian les Bains offer supermarkets and greater facilities and services. Around the village, on the well marked walking trails, you can find various monuments such as the Vierge de Vacheresse and a fresh water fountain. Local farms and fromageries too are often open to visitors.
The area around Vacheresse is a paradise for sportsmen and women, and for the young ones too, as in every season there is something to do thanks to this fabulous location near Lake Geneva and the ski resorts. In winter, skiing, snow boarding and many other snow sports are available within a short distance of Vacheresse. Walking and hiking are very popular pursuits, and there are some excellent trails to follow through the Abondance Valley.
Lake Geneva has facilities for all kinds of water sports as well as endless opportunities for enjoyment through the patrimony, the shopping and the restaurants in the towns along the waters edge. Spa towns such as Evian les Bains and Thonon les Bains are also great to visit.
The nearest airports are located in Geneva, Lyon and Chambéry, Geneva being the closest. These are served by a multitude of airlines between them. Trains run into various towns around the Haute-Savoie, with TGV stations in Lyon and Geneva linking to many local services. Vacheresse is approached from the D22.
Although Alpine property is often expensive, Vacheresse has some reasonably priced properties to offer. At the time of writing, it is possible to buy a lovely apartment for under 200,000 Euros, which compares very favourably with apartments in many neighbouring towns.
