Vallorcine - an authentic Alpine village

Vallorcine is a small, family friendly ski resort and Alpine village. Lying at the foot of the lofty Mont Blanc, it's tranquil and traditional, yet lies just ten miles from the lively and sophisticated resort of Chamonix. Access to some of the best skiing of the French Alps is guaranteed from a base in Vallorcine.

A peaceful, family friendly base

Vallorcine is only small, but this is a large part of its charm. It's ideal for skiing fans who prefer to return to a peaceful, authentic village in the evenings. Après ski exists, but takes the form of a handful of cosy restaurants and bars rather than booming nightclubs. It's great for families too, and children are always made to feel very welcome. Of course, if you've got a mixed age group party and the younger members of the group want to access a livelier scene and more facilities, Chamonix is just up the road and is packed with fun things to do, day and night. Vallorcine also has some useful shops... sports shops, general shops and a lovely farm produce shop for local delicacies like mountain cheeses.

Outdoor activities are available all year round

Of course, it's mainly about skiing (the resort has access to pistes for all levels), but that's not all that's on offer. From the village itself you can also try snow shoeing, ski joering (a winter sport involving a skier being pulled by a horse or occasionally by a sled dog), climbing and cross country skiing. Vallorcine has an ice rink too, if you fancy doing something quite different.

Enjoy dog sledding and cable car trips in Chamonix

If you head for Chamonix, you'll have access to pretty much any mountain based activity you can think of. Dog sledding, for example, provides a never to be forgotten experience. Really competent skiers can take a guided off piste thrilling run down Mont Blanc. But if that's not for you don't worry, cable car trips to enjoy the views are available too, and bring you back down more gently! Then in summer there are a whole host of different activities to try. Forest walks, culture tours, fishing, pony trekking, mountain biking and rock climbing are all possible.

Discover the area around Vallorcine

You don't have to stay around the village or the ski slopes and resorts to enjoy this stunning area of the Alps. There are plenty of places to see nearby. Close to the village you might enjoy visits to the crystal museum at Tairrax Centre, the Bérard Waterfall, the Sea of Ice near Chamonix or take the Stage Coach Trail through the outlying hamlets to discover a real taste of Savoyard life and heritage.
