Bourg Saint Maurice is a lovely and traditional style town in the Savoie Department of the French Alps. The town is frequently seen as no more than a stopping point en route to the Alpine ski resort of Les Arcs, as it is here that the trains reach the end of their journeys to the Alps, offloading their passengers who are keen to make the transfer upwards to the resorts above the town. Bourg Saint Maurice, however, is more than just a railway station, useful though this may be! Its cobbled streets hark back to a gentler era and there are some truly lovely properties to be found in and around the town.
Anyone who is a keen skier would be hard pressed to find a better place to base himself or herself than Bourg Saint Maurice. It has unrivalled access to some of the best skiing in the Alps, being located immediately below the famous resort of Les Arcs. The town is also a magnet for cycling enthusiasts in the summer months, as it frequently forms the base of a stage of the Tour de France. Those who wish to emulate heroes such as Lance Armstrong can often be spotted in the town preparing themselves for the monumental climb into the mountains!
