For buying and selling property in Aime
Aime is a very pleasant mountain village which is found in the Savoie department of the Rhone Alps region of eastern France. It is one of ten villages which together make up the ski resort of La Plagne, acknowledged to offer some of the very best skiing in the region. As Aime is one of the highest altitude villages (at a height of 1,200m), good snow cover and beautiful scenery are assured.
Aime is a good sized village, and is well equipped with shops, hotels, restaurants, sports and leisure facilities and essential services. Après ski is also catered for in Aime, with lively bars, music bars and discos for those still energetic enough after a day of whizzing down the slopes or engaged in other mountain sports! There is a lively and very enjoyable programme of activities laid on throughout the year, with summer events including open air concerts, children's days out, cycling and fêtes. Aime also offers a large leisure area with a lake (with a safe swimming area), a rafting centre, a café, a children's play area and even trampolining for those with energy to burn.
Winter sports are, of course, largely based on skiing and snowboarding, but you can also try your hand at sledging, snow shoeing, parapenting or even bobsleighing if you are feeling particularly brave! Access to the major ski areas of Paradiski and the Three Valleys is excellent from Aime.
Aime is an authentic Savoyard village, not a purpose built tourist resort, and is very proud of its history and patrimony. There are several historic or interesting buildings in the village, including the St Martin Basilica, a Romanesque early Christian church which is a classified historical monument, and the Baroque Saint Sigismund Church. In the Saint Martin Basilica you can see important and beautiful frescoes.
You may also wish to take a guided tour of the Montmeyeur Tower, built for the Viscounts of the Tarantaise. During the tour you will discover exhibits tracing the history and lifestyle of the area, and take in a spectacular 360 degree view from the top of the tower. The Pierre Borrione Museum, with fascinating mineral collections and a history of the mining past of La Plagne, is another place worth a visit.
You can fly to either Chambéry or Geneva to get to the village from the UK by air. Airlines servicing Geneva include British Airways, Air France, easyJet, Bmi Baby, Flybe and Jet2, while Chambéry is serviced by Flybe and Jet2. Train travel is perhaps an even better option, as the station at nearby Aime La Plagne is served by both the Eurostar and the TGV services. Should you prefer to drive, you can find the town along the N90.
Property in ski resorts and the nearby villages of the Alps usually comes with a high price tag, and there is really no avoiding this unless you choose low altitude destinations with less access to good skiing. Prices in Aime are pretty standard for the area, which is to say, fairly high, but there are some bargains around for those prepared to keep an eye on the market and move quickly when they see something they like. At the time of writing there are some superb properties on the market in and around Aime, with several coming in at under 300,000 Euros for fully renovated and good sized houses. Rental possibilities are excellent, and the village remains popular in summer as well as winter.
