A traditional Savoyard village

The Alpine village of Bozel, which lies in the Savoie department of eastern France, is a traditional old Savoyard village, and not just a purpose built resort. Bozel is a picturesque village with considerable authentic charm, and it is a perfect setting for families to enjoy the many delights of the French Alps, be it winter, summer, or all year round. Surrounded by beautiful, densely forested slopes, interspersed with fragrant Alpine meadows, Bozel has an abundance of natural beauty as well as access to some of the best skiing in Europe in winter.

Village Life

Village life in Bozel is tranquil yet offers plenty of variety and entertainment. There are some authentic and lovely buildings to admire, such as the old church, and you can settle back and recapture a sense of the past with music by the town's excellent folk group. There is a great selection of shops in Bozel, and these include a couple of smallish supermarkets, general shops, arts and craft shops, and clothing stores, including specialist sportswear shops where you can equip yourself for all the activities available here. There are several traditional events to enjoy too, with summer concerts and folk events, and gorgeously atmospheric Christmas markets in December.

Leisures and pleasures

Bozel may be small, but there is no shortage of good Savoyard dining experiences in the village. The cuisines available range from pizzas to traditional French fare, and the quality is very good indeed. Families are welcomed in the restaurants and cafés, and children of all ages catered for.

All levels of skiers will find something to suit them, and there are some excellent ski schools to be found.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that Bozel is just for winter… this is far from the case and some of the best delights of the area are saved for the summer months when skiing is but a distant memory. The mountains around the village are perfect for walking, and the views are quite fantastic. From Bozel's highest point, the summit of Mont Jovet, you can even see Mont Blanc on a clear day. Mountain sports reign supreme here, and you can enjoy rock climbing and lake and river sports such as white water rafting, as well as the simpler pleasures of the ancient French game of Boules.
