For buying and selling property in Flumet
Flumet is a lovely Alpine village that lies in the Val d'Arly area of the French department of the Savoie, in eastern France. The setting is as lovely as the village itself, with snowy winter slopes decorated with dark pine forests and a summer beauty of green pastures and soaring mountains above. Flumet has not sold out to tourism, despite its popularity, and retains an original Alpine charm.
Flumet is a village that forms the heart of a group of three ski areas and villages all of which interlink and have access to the Espace Diamant ski areas. This means that not only are the services and amenities of Flumet itself available to you, but also those of the other villages, Notre Dame de Bellecombe and Praz sur Arly. Between the villages there are all manner of shops, restaurants and bars as well as necessary services such as cash points, doctors and non ski related leisure facilities.
Although ski and mountain tourism is now a way of life for Flumet, the village retains its traditional roots, and one of its traditional industries is that of cheese making. Cheese made from the sweet milk of cows fed on the lush mountain pastures around Flumet is world famous and utterly delicious. Look out for Reblochon and Beaufort.
Probably the majority of people who are seeking to buy property in or to visit Flumet are interested in some kind of sporting activity. The most popular of all is, of course, skiing, and Flumet is a superb spot for this, being linked to some of the best skiing in Europe, and also close to the majestic Mont Blanc. Snow sports of all kinds are available here, but summer too has its sporting pleasures in store. Rock climbing, walking, mountain biking, fishing and pony trekking all are on offer, and the beautiful setting makes everything you do in the open air a delight.
There are many famous name resorts accessible from Flumet, so if you always wanted to see what Chamonix is like, it's only about twenty kilometres from the village, so easily accessible. Megève is just ten kilometres away, and Mont Blanc itself towers over everything in the locality, with trips to the top (and down again!) possible for experienced off piste skiers. If you want to escape the whole ski scene for a while then take a trip to the city of Geneva, for an entirely different experience.
The village is only around an hour and a quarter drive from the airport of Geneva, so is certainly accessible by air. Geneva is served by British Airways, Air France, easyJet, flybe, Jet2 and Aer Lingus. Or you could fly to Lyon St Exupery (British Airways, Air France, easyJet, bmi) or Chambéry (flybe, Jet2, Astraeus). The ski train goes to Moûtiers and Bourg St Maurice, or you could take the TGV to Chambéry straight from Paris or Lille. If you prefer to drive, from Paris follow the A6 auto route, then take the A43 for Chambéry and then the A40 to Albertville (exit 20). From here follow signs for Flumet.
Alpine property is usually on the expensive side of average... with some much more expensive than that! Flumet has a proposition to put to you, however, if you think that property in such a delightful Alpine resort may be beyond your means... why not consider a leaseback property? Other than that, there are some lovely apartments on the market which are selling (at the time of writing) for under 200,000 Euros each... perhaps not as out of reach as you may have thought?

Flumet lies in the Alps in eastern France, in the very north of the Savoie department.
Population: 769
Access: By air: Fly to Lyon St Exupery, Chambéry or Geneva. By rail: Take the TGV to Chambéry straight from Paris or Lille. By road: Drivers can find the village from the Albertville exit of the A40.
Economy: The economy is now quite concerned with mountain tourism, although agriculture is the traditional economic force. The village is also known for its cheeses.
Interesting fact: Flumet, as part of the Val d'Arly, has a micro climate that is excellent for skiers and walkers. There is no fog, great snow and more sunshine than most of the other ski areas of the Alps.
