Straight from the front of a box of Christmas cards, the village is exceptionally pretty. The villagers pride themselves on offering a warm welcome to strangers, and the village has a long history of ski tourism.
The village has a collection of shops to serve you with most of your needs, and you can also find specialist sport and skiing outlets, shops selling local delicacies and craft shops for those little Christmas gifts.
In both winter and summer the village of Pralognan la Vanoise offers lots of sporting opportunities for all. In winter you can, of course, make use of the superb skiing facilities (which include excellent ski schools catering for all levels and all ages) and also try snow shoeing and cross country skiing. Snow levels are usually good throughout the season, so you will rarely have any wasted days.
Summer time brings different pleasures, and apart from sitting back and enjoying the breathtaking beauty of the mountains, you can try mountain biking, climbing, walking and fishing. Man made facilities exist too, in the shape of an Olympic sized ice rink and a swimming pool complex with water slides.
There is plenty of après ski to be found in the village of Pralognan la Vanoise, but it tends to be of a gentler and calmer variety than in some of the trendier ski villages. A handful of restaurants offer a varied cuisine and ambience, and as these include pizzerias you can rest assured that the kids will be happy too! There are a good selection of bars, but these tend to be found in the hotels rather than lining the streets. Dancing is also available in some, just ask around in the village to find out what's on where.
The nearest airport to the resort is Lyon. This offers direct flights from the UK with a number of airlines, which include BA, Air France, easyJet, bmi and bmibaby. Lyon also has a TGV station, so those who prefer to travel by train are catered for as well.
Pralognan la Vanoise is a great place to buy property if you are a keen skier. A little less expensive than some of the better known resorts, it offers superb skiing in a more tranquil setting. Attractive wooden chalets and chalet style apartments are the norm, and are usually built to a high standard.

Interesting fact: As the town is not far from the Italian border it was once used as part of a smuggling route between France and Italy.
