For buying and selling property in Séez
If your Alpine holiday or lifestyle involves more than just skiing, Séez could be a perfect destination for you. This pretty little village lies close to the renowned slopes and resorts of the Tignes/Val d'Isère areas, and is ideal for lovers of mountain sports in all seasons, but it is also a lovely, typically Savoyard village, packed with heritage and culture. Séez is particularly noted for its crafts, so much so that guided tours are run from the surrounding resorts to discover the village and its work.
While many ski resorts and popular towns have little except skiing and bars to recommend them, Séez has plenty of original architecture and culture to enjoy, making it a delightful place for the discerning holiday maker. Indeed it is the heritage and the culture of Séez which really makes this village stand out from the crowd. Its traditional Savoyard crafts include cheese making, spinning, tanning and taxidermy among others, and many of the workshops can be visited and the products tested and bought. Among the other sights of note are the Baroque church, an old mill, an Alpine garden and several craft museums.
The village is relatively peaceful, offering a good choice of bars and restaurants but not really the most sizzling of après ski scenes, so is perhaps of more interest to couples or families. However, the village does have some shops, including a small supermarket. And just up the road is the buzzing and highly popular town of Bourg Saint Maurice, where much larger facilities (including ski hire and equipment sales shops) are found.
Séez is also home to many events and festivities ranging from colourful summer markets to festivals, craft fairs and Christmas shows.
Almost any mountain activity you can name is found within reach of the village, so it makes a great base for skiers, boarders, rock climbers, mountain bikers and anyone else who loves getting out and about in the Alps. Val d'Isère and Tignes need no introduction to winter sports enthusiasts, with some of the best snow in France in addition to great resorts, a sparkling après ski scene and stunning scenery.
The town of Bourg St Maurice has long been established as a favourite with ski fans, while other places to visit in the area include the unspoiled beauty of the Vanoise National Park, the art and history town of Chambéry and the mediaeval town of Conflans.
Flying into the area offers a choice of airports at Chambéry, Geneva and Grenoble. Chambéry is served by British Airways, Flybe, Jet2, Bmi Baby and Snow Jet; Geneva by a multitude of airlines; and Grenoble by Flybe, easyJet and Thomas Cook Airlines. Meanwhile there is a railway station at Bourg Saint Maurice for those who prefer the train. The village is also easily found by drivers, as it lies just off the main N90 road, on the D902/D1090.
Alpine property, especially that in popular ski areas, is rarely cheap. At times, in fact, it can be downright expensive. However, this doesn't mean you have to give up the dream entirely. In and around Séez, various possibilities can be found within a reasonable price bracket of between 280,000 and 400,000 Euros.
