For buying and selling property in Verteillac
The village of Verteillac, which sits in a pretty pocket of countryside on the edge of the White Perigord area of the Dordogne, is a thriving community with considerable traditional charm. Being set close to the border with Poitou-Charentes also means that residents or visitors to the village have access to a wide range of attractions and places to visit.
Verteillac is a relatively small village, with just around 650 permanent residents. But it's a vibrant community, and offers a larger than usual range of shops and services as it serves as a hub for the surrounding smaller villages, as well as catering for its own inhabitants. Shops include a small supermarket, a butcher's, a baker's and a couple of antiques places where you can find those special little French pieces to enhance your home. Verteillac has a bank with a cashpoint, a pharmacy, a post office and even a little art gallery to enjoy. For leisure time, the village offers a handful of bars, cafés and restaurants. If you enjoy sports and active pursuits, there's also a swimming pool and some tennis courts. And on Saturdays, a market sets up in the village centre, so get out of bed early and get down there with your basket to grab fresh, local produce at its best. Now that's quite a lot of amenities for a small, country village!
Around Verteillac there are several castles to be seen: Château de Breuil, Château de la Grénerie and Château de la Meynfrenie. Verteillac Church is attractive and worth a visit, and there are plenty more interesting and authentic buildings in the village.
Verteillac's location means that from a base in the village there is a multitude of things to do and places to visit. From the stunning countryside of rivers and woodlands, cereal plains and gorgeously picturesque villages of the Dordogne, to the richly varied attractions of Poitou-Charentes, the area has something for everyone. The stunning village of Aubeterre sur Dronne is almost on the doorstep, and really is not to be missed. Riberac, a good sized town with an acclaimed market is another to add to the itinerary. A little further afield you can visit the wine town of Bergerac, or pop across the border into Poitou-Charentes to make the most of the multiple attractions such as Futuroscope and Monkey Valley.
Sports fans will find themselves spoiled for choice. There's kayaking and other river sports, walking, horse-riding, tennis, cycling, swimming, golf, and even hot air ballooning all to be found nearby.
Airports within easy reach of Verteillac include Bergerac, Limoges and Bordeaux. TGVs also travel to those cities, as well as Angoulême. If driving, the village, which is situated on the D708, is also near to the N10, N21 and A89 motorways. If taking the ferry, St Malo is the nearest ferry port, but even the longer drive from Calais is a pleasure, as it takes you through a fascinating ever changing landscape on the journey south-west.
Due to its enduring popularity, especially with British buyers, much of the Dordogne has become rather expensive when it comes to property. However, the recent economic difficulties experienced by most of Europe have meant that prices have stabilised, and in many cases been reduced to become more realistic. So, now's a great time to buy.
