For buying and selling property in Samadet
The Landes department of south-west France may not be the best known department in France, but to those that do know it, it is unbeatable for its peace, beauty and character. Samadet is a tranquil and very pretty village which is found about halfway between Mont de Marsan and the A64. The village is renowned for its earthenware products and its wines.
Samadet is a real community, traditional in appearance and in atmosphere, but with a lively community spirit. There are shops and services to make life easy, and among these you will find hairdressers, a pharmacy, doctors, dentists, vets, a tabac presse and a handful of earthenware direct sales outlets.
Samadet does not pretend to be a tourist capital, but it does have a pretty little church with a beautifully decorated interior and a great museum of earthenware, where you can discover the processes by which the products are made, and view and buy the finished products if you wish to.
Samadet has a couple of good restaurants, one of which is an extremely popular pizzeria, so all you need to do for a great night out is pop down to the village centre, order the specialities of the region and add a bottle or two of the local wine.
If you are seeking an unusual form of entertainment you can find it in this area, as the special kind of (humane) bullfighting known as "Cours Landaise" takes place in many towns close to Samadet. In this genre of the sport, unlike that practised so controversially in Spain, the bulls live to fight another day and it is the unarmed men who are most at risk.
Other leisure activities you may wish to pursue include attending the fêtes, ferias and festivals that take place in Samadet and the surrounding towns and villages (mainly in the summer) or popping down to the regular art and sculpture exhibitions held here.
The countryside of the Landes, unspoiled and tranquil, is ideal for walking, cycling and horse-riding... or indeed, for any activity that gets you out in the fresh air and sunshine and lets you appreciate the beauty of the surroundings.
The beautiful town of Mont de Marsan is the jewel of the region, and it is a definite must see if you are getting out and about. The surf beaches of the Atlantic Silver Coast are within easy reach, and if you wish to travel just a little further you will find that Spain and the mountains of the Pyrénées are all quite accessible.
You can fly to Pau, Biarritz or to Bordeaux. Both Pau and Biarritz are served by Ryanair, while Bordeaux is served by British Airways, bmibaby, Aer Lingus, easyJet and flybe. Rail travel will take you to Bayonne, Bordeaux, Biarritz and Toulouse by TGV, from where you can catch linking trains to nearby Mont de Marsan. Drivers can find the village on the D2/D44. The nearest major roads are the D824 and A64.
Samadet offers a real opportunity to purchase property in a beautiful and relatively undiscovered part of the south of France for far less money than you might expect to pay elsewhere. Currently on the market are some lovely character properties, some with external timbers in the traditional style, with prices ranging from around 150,000 Euros to 500,000 Euros. At all levels, the town and its environs represents great value for money.
