Lembeye is a pretty and typically Bearn bastide market town found within shouting distance of the glorious scenery of the Pyrénéan Mountains. The town is a bustling and vibrant centre, even though it is set amid the tranquillity of vineyards, green meadows and pure air of the mountains. And being within easy reach of Pau means that getting to Lembeye easy and affordable, as Pau has an international airport and major railway station.

Lembeye is fully equipped with all the facilities you will need for a comfortable and very pleasant everyday life, with a full complement of local shops (including a couple of supermarkets) and services offering schools, doctors and entertainment. Market day is Thursday, offering a traditionally French shopping experience, and the town is also host to a number of festivals throughout the year. Lembeye's architecture is typically Bearn, with steeply pitched roofs giving an appearance unique to the area. The town has some historic features including a church and remains of the old fortifications.

Fabulous location with lots to see and do

Lembeye benefits from a fabulous location. Being close to the stunning Pyrénéan Mountains means you can easily access their ski resorts, spa towns and glorious views, and as it is also within a short drive of the main town of Pau, further extensive facilities are available to you. The Atlantic coast with Biarritz and other renowned resorts and surfing beaches are within reach too, making Lembeye a perfect base for a life or a holiday in France.

Locally based sporting and leisure activities are legion, with everything from skiing and mountain biking in the mountains to swimming and sunbathing at the coast. The towns and villages of the department are known for their love of festivals, and you will find many cultural events taking place in the area all year round.

How to get there

Pau's airport (served by Ryanair) makes flying to the area really simple, while it is also possible to travel by train to that city, which is only 30 minutes away. Even ferry travel is possible, as there is a ferry service that runs to Bilbao from the UK, although you will need to hire a car to complete the journey to Lembeye! If driving, you will find the town from the D13 or D943, with several major roads (A64, N21, N124 and N134) all running close by.

Property prices and availability in and around Lembeye

The area is highly desirable, so property here is not the cheapest in France, but there are plenty of bargains to be had. With restoration projects around Lembeye starting at just 100,000 Euros, there is every chance that even those on a budget will find something to suit in this beautiful corner of Aquitaine.
