For buying and selling property in Bégard
Bégard is a small Breton market town which is located in the spectacularly beautiful Côtes d'Armor department of northern Brittany, in north-west France. The little town is very attractive and although busy in season, it retains an essential Breton spirit. Bégard lies slightly inland, but as with everywhere in Brittany, the lovely sandy beaches are almost on the doorstep, so days at the seaside are a "definite possibility".
The town is equipped with all the usual amenities, so you can pick up the shopping, do the banking, visit a hairdresser and do all of the everyday things you need to do without having to travel further afield. The town also provides some good restaurants, and there are lots of delicious Breton fast food options such as crepes and seafood outlets too. Then there is the Friday market, which is an event of true local colour and is a real "must see"!
Golfers love Bégard. It is one of the most popular ports of call in Brittany for those who love to chase the little white ball, because there is a superb nine-hole golf course just on the edge of town. There are so many people these days for whom a holiday is not a holiday (nor a home a home!), if there is no golf course nearby, and much of France has, perhaps, been a little slow to accept this fact. Bégard makes up for this, however, with a very enjoyable and challenging little course.
Every parent knows the value of keeping the kids happy, and Bégard proves that it fully understands this need too. Armoripark is a superb water park where kids can safely swim and slide to their hearts' content. And with a bit of luck at the end of the day they will be tired out after all the healthy activity, so you will be able to relax in peace with that all important glass of good French wine!
Brittany has a hundred thousand places to visit, and the ever present coast is a draw that ensures that you will visit it time and time again. There is no end of sports available in the region, and the lovely countryside is ideal for walkers and cyclists alike. Towns worth a visit in the department include the mediaeval delight of Dinan, the prefecture or departmental capital of St Brieuc, Lannion and the strangely named but very charming Guingamp.
There is an airport at Dinard, and you can fly there direct with Ryanair or Aurigny Air. Those who prefer to travel by boat (and it is a good idea to have a car so that you can easily explore more of this great region) can take the ferry to Roscoff or St Malo.
Brittany prices (and specifically, Côtes d'Armor prices) are on the up, as there is only so much of this desirable region and God doesn't seem to be making any more... at least, not in the foreseeable future! This does have an up side, however, and this is that prices will remain strong should you ever come to sell your property, or even wish to rent it out. From traditional Breton cottages to grand manor houses, there is something here for everyone... but take note that property in this area doesn't stay on the market long, so don't hang around once you find something you like.
